Should I Keep My Condensor Studio Mic In Its Fabric Case When Not In Use?

Nobody in my house smokes and the room is kept at a comfortable temp and humidity. And the room isnt used unless I'm playing or recording. Is it necessary to keep it in its case?

Another question, when not in use, is playing music loudly going to damage the insides of the mic if i dont keep it in its case?

I leave mine out in the room, on the mic stand, but I keep it covered unless I'm using it. That's to prevent dust from building up inside the grill. Loud music shouldn't be a problem, unless you've got the mic up next to the speaker.

yes, as paul says, if it's not in the case, it should at least be covered to keep dust out.

A dust cover should be enough if the humidity stays low.  Those things are not as fragile as you might think. I've seen them take all kinds of abuse in a live setting and still work up to spec.  Loud noise won't hurt them either.  Air blast can damage some ribbon mics but not condensors.  Humidity, dust, smoke, spit, can be bad and raise the noise floor but you don't have those problems. I've seen gobs of studio photos of priceless Neumanns in a room full of people smoking so even that risk may be a little overblown.  Mics that have made hundreds of famous recordings have seen worse then yours will ever go through.

I keep my mics on their stands covered with a sandwich bag. It keeps the dust off and that's my primary concern.
