Should I Uninstall Sonar Platinum and Install Cakewalk by Bandlab?
After a long layoff I'm getting back into recording. I currently have Cakewalk Sonar Platinum installed. I stopped my subscrption a couple years ago so I suppose my version is frozen in time. I was thinking about reinstalling on a different drive. Should I uninstall Sonar and all its components completely and then install CWbBL? Will I lose anything by doing this (such as Melodyne or Dimension Pro, for example)? Also, will that nifty Command Center come back if I install the new Bandlab version? I've been out of the loop so I'm not sure where things stand. Thanks for any tips.

Hi SteamBC, No need to uninstall Sonar Platinum. Cakewalk by BandLab rides alongside Sonar. Just look at Cakewalk by Bandlab as a "new and improved" version of SPLAT that is being continually improved. Also, Cakewalk by BandLab didn't port over some of the after market items SPLAT had. In order to keep using them, keep SPLAT installed. Hope that helps.

I'll be stronger in my advice... DO NOT uninstall Sonar Platinum... for all the reasons above. They'll live happily side by side, and you'll get to use all your Sonar Platinum goodies in CbB.

Um, maybe I'm confused. OP said his install of Platinum expired a couple years ago, which means it's back to demo version, right? While it certainly won't hurt to leave Platinum installed, does he really get any benefits from having a demo version installed? For example, do the expired instruments now work under CbB? I'm thinking no, but maybe I'm missing something...

Not quite. The OP wrote steambc I currently have Cakewalk Sonar Platinum installed. I stopped my subscrption a couple years ago so I suppose my version is frozen in time.
It is not clear if the OP made sufficient payments to secure a full license to Platinum or not.

I guess the OP needs to fire up Cakewalk Command Center and see if it re-activates Platinum.

Thanks guys. Yes, I made enough payments where I have a permanent ownership of Sonar Platinum. My understanding is that it didn't expire, but rather it became ineligible for the flow of new updates. I ran an update a month ago and it did update a few components. I'd really like to get Sonar entirely off my C drive and onto my secondary drive. I'm considering doing the following: 1) Completely uninstall Sonar Platinum and all plugins associated with it. 2) Run Cakewalk Command Center and re-install it to my secondary drive. 3) Install Cakewalk by BL alongside of SPLAT Is this feasible, or will I likely lose some stuff in the process? Thanks so much!

That should work. Here are the clean install instructions for Platinum.
