Should I install video drivers?

So I just built my new DAW and I am unsure whether to install my graphic drivers or not for my card. I read that there's pros/cons to both sides doing so. Some said just use windows generic (which I'm doing now) and other said install. What's your take?

I ask b/c I am noticing my console meters lagging with the music, almost choppy! Will installing the drivers help?

    Yes  - most definitley install the proper and latest drivers for your video card. get them from the Nvdia or ATI site, depending of course on what you have.
