Should I record with my Boss br 1600cd or Cakewalks Mc4?

24/48 is better quality audio than 16/44 but that's not the end of the story. Do you record DI into your Boss and computer or what is your recording chain? If you have better AD/DA and preamps etc in your Boss than your audio interface maybe the Boss is to prefer. Long story put short, it all depends on your recording chain

Use the boss as an amp sim and use a sound card/audio interface as a sound card/audio interface.
Usdet eh bosses analog outs. Dont use it as an interface.
Recording in 16 is not advisable when you cvan reocrd in 24bit.

Recording in 24bits will give you 256 more times the resolution of 16bit

the 44.1 part to 48 part, 88, 96 etc... is very VERY hard to hear at ALL!

BUT, as CJay said, 16 bit to 24 bit? HUGE difference. You dont have to record as high of a signal as well because you get so much more info in the signal.

Dont record in 16 bits if you can help it.

You got it right away as to what I was trying to ask.

There are so many options.

I have figured it out, and to list all the options and such would be a waste of time to everyone here.

I am going to use my Boss recorder for now, and the reason why is I got it a while back and never spent any time with it because I didn't know anything about recording, nor did I have the time or energy to use it at the time. Cakewalks MC4 and these forums has taught me more than I can post here, and that made me realize that my Boss recorder shouldn't be collecting dust and I need to be using it.

All of my songs I have posted now in my sig. use the Boss Br1600cd. It's 16/44, Which ultimately as others have pointed out is what CD quality is. It seems to have more punch.

BUT - The things I have done using 24/48 and MC4 seem to have more clarity and lack that old school analog punch.

I think I'm just going to try and use them together in various ways the best I can.

The Boss has a vocal tool box with harmony vocal features and pitch correction - which I have not used but I have heard others music that use it and it sounds great.

I have come to the conclusion that in the end that as long as you are recording "LOSS LESS" and it is CD quality, the rest all boils down to personal preference on how you use it?

Thanks Legion, you understood where I was coming from with this question. It wasn't about just highest bit rate or hz's.......

I am diggin' using this boss recorder, and thanks to MC4 and these forums I know what I am doing for a change using it.

MP3s can't be recorded at 24 bits, can they? I went to try, and Cakewalk told me their encoder could only do 16 and 8 bit MP3s.

Correct, MP3's have to be converted from 16bit / 44100Hz wave files.  they cannot be converted directly from 24bit files without a batch converter of some kind.
