Should I replace carpet with wood laminate in the mix room?
Okay, every control troom of every commercial studio in which I've recorded has been some type of wood or laminate. Same goes for the tracking rooms.
Presently in my home studio, there is berber carpet....obviously no echoes or anything like that. Because I have a multitude of little dogs, I've replaced 2 bedrooms with a wood top/vinyl back floating type of floor (looks good, easy to install, and CHEAP!) and am thinking about moving the mix room to a larger bedroom which I use for an office. I would be gaining a few extra feet in width and length by doing this. There's more ambience with the wood/vinyl (that's a given) and I'm hoping the GIK panels I'm ordering would tame that (4 244's for the corners and 1 for a cloud and 1 monster trap for the back wall)
At this point to everyone, this sounds like a really stupid post, but my general question is, does anyone prefer carpet over wood for the sound of the room?
I have to replace the carpet in the 3rd room anyway....with dogs, carpet doesn't last long plus I think it will help my allergies.
Thanks for your thoughts in advance
