No.
I'm 56.
My hair used to be down to my waist. I cut it short. I was ok with that.
I have shaved my beard off twice. I was ok with that.
I have never ever shaved off my mustache. Aint gonna happen. And I'm ok with that.

Is it fully grown in?  If not, I'd let it finish growing just to see how it turns out and then make your decision.

Re: Should I shave my mustache 2013/10/15 01:56:47 (permalink)
On my face, a moustache all by its lonesome is a bit goofy.  That said, "I'm seldom clean shaven."  My usual routine is to constantly be trimming a perpetual beard, moustache included, with my natural lines to about an 1/8th of an inch.  I've got a real thick beard, and shaving is actually a pita.   Once every 10 years, I get really bored and sport the circle beard for about two weeks...  The last time I rocked a moustache, I was 17.

As it happens, about 10 years ago, I was at a barber, and she gave me a buzz circle beard..  It looked great for about two weeks, till I shaved it off, and about 3 weeks ago, it popped in my head as I was trimming my absolutely ferocious mane; but after two weeks, I frikking hate that look, so instead of going all the way clean shaven this time around, I left my stache in tact.  By the time Nov 1st rolls around, I'm sure I'll have about an 1/8th of beard again, and I'll just even out my face with my trimmers.

Moral of the story:  Unlike a hipster, I can actually grow a beard without trying.  I constantly consider ZZ Topping my look, but I've not got the patience to grow a beard for two years without trimming the damn thing.  Regardless, I've managed to be clean shaven only two days in 2013. A dinner party last February, and a straight razor shave @ the barber over the summer when I was just so fed up, I didn't even want to bother trimming my beard.

As for your moustache: I agree with Old55..  IMHO, you should let it grow to about a 1/2 and inch of length and consider having a barber make your lines.

Whenever I see a man with a beard, moustache and glasses, I think, "Now there's a man who has taken every precaution to avoid people doodling on photographs of him."

 Exactly OlPal......

Just a little advice on the mustache. If you find that you seem to be inhaling the hair on your upper lip it's probably time to trim it. Makes a wonderful fly catcher though.

I love what we can do with photo editing software. If you want to know how you look in a moustache you can find out with software.

Look at the clever way in which someone has taken  a realistic and perfectly normal moustache and added the artificial composite of an animal to it.

I should shave my facial hair.  I haven't for a good few decades though.

I just trim it everytime it gets to the stage when it frightens one of the local kids.

I've always hated shaving, I love my beard trimmer though, a 2 minute fight with that and I'm done.
