JohanSebatianGremlin You might succumb to your heart condition tomorrow. Or you might not. We can only speculate about what happens to you if you do succumb tomorrow. So the better question is what happens if you don't succumb tomorrow? And what happens if you don't the day after that? And the day after that? And the week after that? And the month after that? And year after that? And the decade after that? Like said earlier, you might get hit by a bus tomorrow. Or you might not. And this is the exact same boat every single one of us is in. When I was in my late 20's I decided that I wanted to learn to fly airplanes. But it was prohibitively expensive to I decided to do the responsible thing and put off pursuing that hobby until later in life when I was more settled and had more discretionary income. I figured that when I got to my 50's I'd likely be better able to afford such and indulgent hobby. Then people I knew who were younger than me started dying through absolutely no fault of their own. Lose a couple friends like that and you soon realize that despite your best efforts, you might never live to see 50 so you'd better do the good stuff now. I took out a loan, started taking lessons and 3 months later I was a licensed pilot. A couple years after that, I was flying for a living and having the time of my life. So the reason that you're afraid to start is the exact same reason I choose to take action. Because none of us know when the clock will run out, so better do the good stuff now.
But again in your case I think your reasons for wanting to write (achieving fame) are only setting yourself up for failure and so I would recommend you not bother. If you said that you wanted to write simply for the shear joy of writing and if fame comes out of that all the better, then I would have a different answer. But your sole goal seems to be fame. If that's your goal I'd say don't bother.
And to be fair, if I were talking to a young Dave Grohl and he asked if he should get into music because he goal was to get famous, I'd tell him the exact same thing, stay out of it because you'll likely fail. But if you were talk to Dave Grohl today, I'm pretty sure he'd tell you the reason he went into music was because he wanted to play music and he didn't care nor expect to ever achieve any kind of fame. For him, creating music for his own enjoyment was success enough. Everything that came after that was just bonus. But that's not you. If I'm reading correctly, you only want to do it as a means to get famous and if you don't get famous, you'll likely be disappointed potentially for all of eternity. So I say you're better off not trying. Sorry to be bearer of bad news but I just don't see it being in the cards for you.
You say don't do it. But it all depends on what mindset you use to approach this situation. I have actually decided to go for it now. I had to ask myself a certain question. I asked myself that I have this life to live, so what am I going to do with it? I might as well pursue composing. So I do hope that I achieve my goal of promoting my music and having it recognized on youtube, soundcloud, etc. since it is my only reason for taking up composing in the first place. I do not want these amazing songs I hear in my mind to go to waste. So I hope they get recognized someday. Currently, I have no ability to replicate the songs how I hear them in my mind as of now. Any attempt now would be complete rubbish. As for my likelihood of dying, it is only my heart condition that poses this threat. I am fine otherwise. There are no other likely risk factors that could kill me. I am in a safe home and environment with a loving family. Beepster Seriously guys... this dood has been saying the same thing under multiple handles (all of which eventually get banned) since shortly after I first arrived here. He wants to "compose/produce" the "awesome" and "epic" world changing music he hears in his "head". He writes these long, narcissistic diatribes with some seemingly minor hurtle that needs to be overcome. Others give sincere support and advice which is completely ignored/rejected by way of MORE long winded, navel gazing, pseudo-philosophical stream of consciousness rants. Nothing but excuses coupled with claims that if he could "just get the music in his head produced" the world will see how much of a genius he is. Refuses to to learn theory or any kind of instrument. Refuses to learn or invest in music software. On occasion he's even tried to get OTHERS to fully write and produce his "epic" music by just describing his "feelings" about certain sections in his head (no melodies or description of the sounds... nothing. Just vague, disjointed emotional descriptions). At one point he said he had written and recorded an "epic" video game theme that just needed to be built up. It was a video of some game play with him making weird noises into a microphone ("CHALLAWALLA" lol... seriously). I think it was the last time he showed up when he started just posting OTHER people's music with long stream of consciousness text rants over top of the video describing his "emotions" to... I don't know... prove to us that he really was a genius. The intent seemed to be he wanted to take those descriptions of how he felt and that somehow he (or one of us) could turn that into a fully produced song that would make him famous. He doesn't get mad or aggressive. He just goes around and around and around in circles wasting everybody's time and goodwill. He is either severely mentally ill or he's just some sockpuppet joker doing it for teh lulz. My money is on the latter. TMYK.jpg
Don't worry, I am learning as of now. Like I said earlier, I have had many traumatic and horrible events in my life that had to first be worked out with my therapist. So I am ready to learn now. However, I am not wasting my time talking here in the meantime. Just because I am also here talking in some of my free time does not mean I am wasting my time. I did try to have others produce my music at first since I was hoping for a shortcut to get my music recognized just as how I hear it in my mind. But I learned that method has failed. Therefore, learning how to compose on my own is the only method of getting there. Beepster Oh and I forgot about this one. In one of his more recent visits he started pontificating about Hitler and some nonsense seemingly sympathizing/justifying his crimes/life. It was really weird/bad. He backpedalled pretty quick when called on it.
I would never harm anyone or make anyone's life miserable. When you are traumatized or enraged about stressful life events going on in your life, you would be likely to say things you don't mean. I am a cool and calm respectful individual for the most part. So I would never harm anyone.

Which is exactly what I expected you to say. You came here asking a question. But you already knew the answer. You weren't looking for answers, you were looking for 'go get em champ' support. Fair enough but I've always done honesty far better than the empty platitudes I suspect you were looking for. Best of luck with your endeavor all the same. Get yourself an instrument or two and start making noise. The sooner you do that, the quicker you'll get somewhere with it.

The reason I was so hesitant at first was because I give up when things don't go my way. I give up when I don't get what I want. I am a narcissist sociopath which means that me being happy, having a wonderful time, getting what I want, and having no misery in my life is all that matters to me. I am just here to be happy and to get what I want. I have no desire to live for others, help others, make the world a better place, etc. Therefore, this would mean that my only reason for composing is to get what I want out of it (the recognition). So I will start learning how to compose now and just hope that I attain this recognition.

I am learning how to compose as of now. But in my free time when I am taking a break from learning, I will post here if something important comes to my mind. What would you say to a painter in this situation I am going to describe below? He is just like me since his reason for painting is my same reason for pursuing composing: "I am very inspired to create beautiful and magnificent landscapes in my mind. There is absolutely no way I want such innovative and unique landscapes to go unrecognized by my friends, family, and people all over online. Therefore, I need some means of accurately recreating these landscapes I envision in my mind. So I will take up painting even though I have no passion for painting. I will cultivate the necessary years of knowledge and skill needed to become a professional painter so that I can finally get those landscapes in my mind out into the world just as how I envisioned them. Actually, I now have a passion for painting, but only because of this goal I wish to achieve. If this goal of having my envisioned landscapes recognized by many people was somehow unattainable due to some fatal disease or illness, then I would give up painting right then and there and I would no longer have anymore passion for it. Painting would mean absolutely nothing to me now. The only thing that gives my painting meaning and the only thing that drives my passion to learn how to paint and to pursue it would be this attainable goal. I sure hope I manage to attain this goal despite my heart problem. Otherwise, everything I did and learned would all go to waste." So what would you say to such a painter and what would you think of him/her? The reason why I ask this is because I am curious as to what you think about my passion for becoming a composer.

You can rephrase your initial post as many ways as you like, but it just reveals the same thing: you have a very strange concept of why creative people, in any discipline, are driven to create. I doubt that you'd find any musician, artist or writer who approached their art in the manner you're describing. If you truly have no other passion for music other than 'putting it on YouTube to be recognised' (I can't think of a more lame ambition to be honest), don't bother with it. You say you're 'learning to compose' - how exactly have you started that process? On what instrument? I'm curious.

I am learning music theory on YouTube. Also, I don't think the manner in which I am pursuing my dream is lame or strange at all. If you think about it, music has a social purpose in terms of evolution. You create music, share it with others, and that gets you recognition for your music. I couldn't think of anything more lame than just simply creating music all by yourself with no one to share it with. The type of music I wish to share is not the types of basic and experimental compositions I create through the learning process, but the actual songs I hear in my mind. That is the type of music that needs to be shared and I really hope my heart condition allows me to achieve this goal.

SuperMarioGamer So what would you say to such a painter and what would you think of him/her? The same thing I said to you. I have often heard it said that only a born artist can endure the process of becoming one and I think that statement is absolutely true. Learning an instrument is hard. Learning to write music on it is hard. Learning both well enough to be able to then write the exact music you hear in your head is even more difficult and takes tons of hard work. Without a passion for the instrument and without a passion for the process of learning it, you will fail. Guaranteed. And here's the #1 clue that you will fail. You're here asking the question instead of just going off and doing it. If you truly had what it takes to accomplish what you describe, you wouldn't be asking anyone if you could could succeed at it. Instead you'd be off working on it and no one would be able to talk you out of it. But you're not doing that. Instead, you're on the internet asking complete strangers who have never met you and know nothing about whether or not they think you have what it takes to succeed at going from zero to youtube music star. And the answer is easy. If you have to ask the question, then you already don't have what it takes. Sorry champ. My advice: Go find something that you want to do so badly, no one could ever talk you out of trying. And then go do it. And when you feel like you want to come back here and ask about being a youtube music star again, go do that other thing some more. Do it until your fingers bleed. Then do it some more. Do it until you can't stay awake any longer, then do it more.

You are right, I have no passion for composing alone in of itself. But I do have a passion for it when that goal of recognition is attainable. So that is why I was here asking if I had a chance at achieving this recognition. Again, I don't need to be famous. I just need to have the songs I hear in my mind to get recognized by as many people as I can. Therefore, since it is this recognition which is my only reason for composing, then that is why it was so important that I came here and asked whether I should go through with composing in an attempt to achieve my goal, or if I would just be wasting my time.

I see no contradiction. It is no different than a job and getting paid. If there was a great paycheck for you, then you would have a passion for doing the job. But if there was no pay, then you would have no passion for the job and would just give up on it.

Wrong. There are plenty of people in well-paid jobs who hate what they do, and many people who do work that they love, poorly paid, or even unpaid. In a nutshell; You have no passion for composing music. Therefore, it's very unlikely that you will ever compose any music, and if you did, it would be worthless.

You obviously have never worked a real job. Its also obvious you have never held a management position. Paying people over and above the going market rate for a particular job will keep those people from quitting. But it will NOT under any circumstances motivate them to bring any kind of passion to what they're doing. That's just not how it works. Here's another dose or reality for you. Every single minute you spend posting here is another minute that you're not getting yourself even one inch closer to your goal of youtube success. Not one inch. If you had even half as much passion as you claim you do, you'd be spending every waking minute with your hands on an instrument learning the craft. But you're not which makes all your other claims suspect to say the least. I'm sure you'll try to deny this is true but please don't. Instead PROVE its not true by putting your computer down and picking up an instrument. And then when you want to come back later and deny my claim, don't. Instead go put your hands on that instrument. And keep doing that until you have music on youtube.

SMG you are dead on. Do what you want, not what you need viz music. It's filled with narcissistic sociopaths, arrogant fools who carry on making s***** music. They do it because they WANT to. Leave it at that.

This thread has gone on way too long. It is very simple really. If you want to follow the path of composing (as I have done professionally since 1980!) if you have to ask yourself whether to bother or not then it is simply not for you. That fact alone means you are not decided. It is a bit like should I marry this guy or girl. If you even have to ask that then obviously you are not ready for such a thing. Same thing with composing. For me a light bulb went on when I knew that is what I had to do. I have never stopped since and nothing will get in my way of continuing doing it either.
