Should I uninstall X2 before installing X3?
Kind of a noob question here. Are there any compelling reasons I should not uninstall X2 before I install X3? I don't really have any projects in X2 that I can't live without, and it seems pointless to keep X2 installed. I can't think of any problems with uninstalling X2 before installing X3, but I would imagine there could be all kinds of issues if I try to uninstall X2 after I've installed X3. Is there any chance of me losing plugins, like Z3TA, if I uninstall X2?

Unless you are really cramped for hard drive space, which these days is usually not an issue....I would leave X2 and just install X3.

You need to keep VVocal and R-Mix from x2 as they are.not part of x3. They ,an be accessed from x3 however.
Also anything like Dim Pro, Rapture and z3ta using Sonars own uninstall program you can select what's uninstalled BUT I wouldn't.

Thanks for the replies. To add to my question, if I uninstall X2, are there components and add-ins that will automatically be un-installed as well, or can you select what you want to keep? Also, are VVocal and R-Mix not included with X3 because they have been superseded by new-an-improved components? My concern is really about keeping my system as clean and uncluttered as possible.

There is a shared Sonar folder on everyone's system. If you remove X2, you might well remove something that you'll regret deleting further down the line. It's a really good idea to not delete older systems - they don't consume much space. And you cannot control what gets removed, although you can re-install just the bits you want by performing an advance install and just select those modules that are gone. But it's not 100% foolproof, so it's your choice. V-Vocal has been superseded by Melodyne, not sure about R-Mix, but if you have X2 installed on your system, they should be available in X3 Another reason not to remove X2

I'm with the general consensus to leave X2 on. I have X1d, X2a and X3a on this DAW. There have been times when I have been grateful to have the older versions still, such as when troubleshooting a problem.

V-Vocal has a few functions Melodyne Essential misses. If you don't plan on upgrading Melodyne, definitely don't uninstall V-Vocal.
I wonder if they intended that new filter plug as kind of an R-Mix substitute, or at least a token replacement.

It is just speculation. V-Vocal and R-Mix are Roland Technology. There may be an issue including those products in X3 due to the pending sale of Cakewalk.

I am impressed with Melodyne's integration in X3, but am still glad I have VVocal still. If you uninstall X2 then I would imagine that you can do a custom install to get it back (as has been said). I still have Pantheon from Sonar 6 that way. But.. I would just leave X2 on. And, I imagine scook is probably right about VVocal and RMix.

I agree with this completely and I have the same versions on my system. Heck, the whole C:\Program Files\Cakewalk folder is about 700 MB on my system - less than a sample library.

No need to EVER uninstall any previous version. I still use vsampler from version 4. I have some old, still in process, projects with dp le, and rapture le. When setting up every new comp I install at least the previous version's effects and instruments into different "shared folders." For some stuff, I copy the latest versions to the primary shared folder.
