Show Mercy on the Noob PLs

I am using Windows XP with a self-contained sound card. I have a Xenyx 1002FX mixer and little the UCA202 bit between the board and the computer.

I cannot hear a recorded track when it comes time to overdub. I can hear my instrument through my headphones just fine, I just can't hear the existing track on the computer (in Creator 5).

I am reasonably certain I am missing something obvious. There are 2 problems, of course, a) I am technically something of an idiot, and b) the longer you live with a situation the harder it becomes to see any obvious solution.

If anyone has any advice or could point out what I am not doing properly I would appreciate this.

its very likely that the issue is in the configuration.  Check input / output, recording timing master, playback timing master and driver mode.  If you are using integrated sound card (chip) you likely need to stay with MME drivers.  flip over to them if you are not using them already.  Let the wave profiler run and re-start.   That should at least get basics going.

If still nothing, do a quickie search on here for "no audio" or "no sound" as this is a super common issue and there are more detailed responses around.
