Show your Sonar X1 studio with 1, 2 or multiple screen setup thread
Maybe photos will help me decide whether to go with one very large screen, or a 2 or more screen setup for my home studio. Currently, I am just using a 17" lcd. What will I like about using a larger screen or multiple screens in unison with X1? What do you like about using one very large screen? What do you like about using two or more screens? And... What don't you like about using one large screen or two or more screens?

No photo to share, but what I like about one large monitor (2580 x 1600) is the extra vertical resolution that you don't get by going to two smaller screens. I used to use 2 17" monitors, and while that gave me plenty of horizontal resolution, I always ran out of vertical resolution. Lets face it, tracks are stacked on top of each other and the CV really needs lots height to use. So the question to ask yourself is, what frustrates you about your current set-up and what specifically do you need to fix it.

I prefer a 32" 1080p screen. Things are easier on the eyes when they are alittle bigger.

This is a 40 inch and a 22 inch, but I went back to my to my 32 for the bigger screen. Mine is only 720p. I will be getting a 32-40 1080p eventually, but having 2 screens, even if it is just 2 22 inch, does wonders for workflow - You hcan use one for TV one for CV, or one for TV and one for plugins and Pro Channel (thats what I do), plus I can browse on my right screen while Sonar is on the left. Hands down, dual screens is the only way to go over one screen, one 32 and either a second 32 or maybe a 22 is so nice. Lance

Not the greatest photo in the world but it gives the idea. As a rule of thumb my screensets are mainly....... Left monitor----->CV/PRV/Other Multidocked views Centre----------->Track View Right Monitor---->VST Instruments. One thing I'd add is while I don't think I'll ever go back to one monitor X1 is certainly much easier to use on one monitor than previous versions, thanks of course to.......drum roll...... Screensets.

AND it's easier to use on multiple screens, too. Using at least 4 screens: 1) 1920x1200 laptopA screen 2) 3200x1200 matrox dualhead2go, driving two monitors á 1600x1200 3) 1920x1200 laptopB screen, driven via GB-LAN/Maxivista with views/dock spreaded across, depending on what I'm working on, switched via screensets 4) more and more an additional ipad3 2048x1536 as additional screen via iDisplay on an adhoc-network (for letting sequences to VSTis play, while relaxing in my chair playing with the VSTi controls on my iPad *g* giving me at least 7040x1200 plus 2048x1536 and I really really miss vertical screen real estate! (I guess I will soon go with a Dell U3011 2560x1600, using the two 1600x1200 in portrait mode left and right to it, along with the two laptops 1920x1200 and the iPad screen...)

I use two monitors with 1920x1080 both with DVI 2 @ 21.5" one for guides and plugins, it also has an Internet computer conected using VGA. The other is used for just the Multidock. I Also have 26.5" LCD TV with VGA hook up set @ 1360x768 in the center for just the Track View. This makes a very large size wave forms in the clips pane due to the low resolution but you need a very large screen to take advantage of the low resolution. I would replace this if I could with 1920 x 1080 Bottom line. 1920x1080 a must have. 21.5" very good visual with the Dell Ultra Sharps. Sorry no pics

I spend so much time in it I figure it's best to have it comfortable and mood setting. Those LEDs are fairly cheap, come in lots of colours and available from ebay BTW for anyone else thinking about getting some. Some who know me might say I am an alien.....

shameful, you can't see an overall view of each track level & pan,but check the waste space (our left to right)between the inspector border and the numbers, also between monitor button to tracks modes, same happens to me all the time, or similar, I hate it

Those screens and studio setups look stellar. For me, it's either going to be a 27" screen or two 19" widescreens. I like the idea of Sonar being centered in the screen but on the same token, having the additional monitor - I can have VSTs or the mixer displayed. So I'm really having a hard time trying to decide. That's why I would like to know if using one very large monitor vs. two is more beneficial or is it just user preference? californiamusic, how many tracks do you think can be displayed on a 19" screen?

I wouldn't worry about the number of tracks, with track folders you can have as many as you need all on one screen. A big thing is your video card, what outs does it have?

If your main concern is the number of tracks you can fit vertically, here's an image of my desktop using portrait HD monitors (70 tracks):

Looks nice Dave! Does it take a while to get the mouse pointer from one screen to the next? I am considering just one big screen if it takes too long to mouse over the pointer but 2 screens look very enticing.

The mouse does not take any longer to move between screens, compared to one big screen. Imagine the big screen is split in half, and placed far away.. the mouse just cross over immediately. You can also configure the monitor to be stacked top/bottom or left/right, and the mouse will move according to how you configure. Or in my case of 3 monitors, the bottom monitor can be placed evenly between to top 2, or when I placed it immediately below the left monitor (as in my pic), it can be configured that way to.
