Hard to tell! Is this gonna be your first mic, or do you already own one or more?

i think the sm7b will be more forgiving with rock vocals, expecially hard rock, than the senn will be

The sm7b needs a pre-amp with a good amount of gain, more than a condensor mic. If you're just using the amps from your interface you might want to try it out first if you can avail yourself of an opportunity to borrow one, just to make sure you'll have enough gain

The e835 isn't such a bad mic. We use them at rehearsal side by side with SM58s and no one seems to care which is which. I believe the MK4 will be a more useful addition to your studio at this point. Also because the UX2 preamps get real noisy at high gain (which the SM7B requires).

Zemorg wouldnt be sure about that man, i think i need a decent mic for studio recording.. Hey, I named not one but TWO mics that are more than decent for studio recording! The AKG D5 performs like an SM58 but lacks the 3-4 kHz "Shure Shout" has fuller bass and a nice bit more detail. Being a super cardoid, it also has better flank rejection, which rocks for singing without headphones. The SM7B (yes, I own one) is basically an SM58 with a chunky body and few extra tricks up its sleeve. The sEX1 is a nice example of a budget LDC without the classic "Chinese OEM" hype. I haven't tried the Senn MK4, but I'd be surprised if it was really a lot better. In my experience you need to step up your budget to at least $500-700 to get an LDC that's significantly better (AT4050, Neumann TLM-102 and Shure KSM32 spring to mind). I'm no pro, but I've tested a lot of mics. It's sort of a hobby of mine... Sven

i think the sm7b would suit your needs just right. it's a well proven mic used on a lot of pro recordings, by a wide range of artists
