VST and hardware that they cannot use to their full potential because Cakewalk has let Sonar has decide we cannot use them. Mystic, I'm just curious, can you tell me what these "full potential" options are? I must confess, I'm one of "those users" that has everything working great to where I'd probably not need or have a use for VST3. However, I would definitely not be opposed to it for people like yourself that are in need of it. I think it should be included in our DAW if this is the way things are evolving. But what are the benefits? What additional options would a user like me that is used to VST 2.4 see and what advantages are there? I have a few DAW hosts that support them and see little things, but nothing that would make me not use a DAW host that doesn't offer them unless I had specific VST plugs that could not be used of course. I feel for those that may be in a situation like that, so please don't think I'm trying to be confrontational. I'm seriously curious about this. Thanks for your time. :) -Danny

Hi danny, np :) In the case of the OP.. the Waves C6 plug-in only supports sidechain functionality if you use the VST3 version..if you use the VST2.4 version it doesnt... So having spent a sizeable amount on the plug he cannot use it to its full potential in Sonar...The same thing applies to some other VST3 plugins that folks either have a license for and cannot use, or wish to buy but cannot due to the limitation in Sonar... Similarly for hardware, there are editors that are only available in VST3 format.. for example all current Motif workstations and derivatives incl. my S70xs stage piano.. I have a VST3 editor that i cannot use and so integrating the huge capability of the S70xs into a Sonar project is simply not possible.. i have to dumb down my needs of it and use it as a simple sound generator. So, to answer the question "what are the benefits? etc.... the answer is simply that the consumer can pick what plugins and hardware to use, rather than be constrained in choice by the DAW vendor... (I think you answered this yourself with "unless there are specific VST plugs that could not be used").. cheers, p.s. that a jackson?.. imagine being told you had to play heavy metal with a Tele :)

Wow! Cakewalk's silence on this thread is amazing. They are letting themselves get trashed.

munmun Wow! Cakewalk's silence on this thread is amazing. They are letting themselves get trashed. Noel has already responded that while VST3 is on their radar that there is currently no schedule for its implementation, and of course as a company they are fully entitled to prioritise things as they see fit. In saying that, of course even if they were working on it, they would likely not say anthing different it as it would be company confidential information :)

Yeah I pretty much had the answers like you had mentioned, but I had also wondered if there were things we could do in VST 3 that we can't do with what we have now. Like someone mentioned on this forum that VST3 in Cubase allows them to do this that this and this....is that due to Cubase or due to capabilities VST3 offers? If it's due to VST3 format, those were the types of benefits I was after if they existed, RE: p.s. - Ibanez USA Custom...and though I have played metal on a tele, point taken....I'd rather not do it on a tele. LOL! :) Thanks again for the response. -Danny
