Sidechaining / compressor sidechaining working ?

Could someone please do a video tutorial for Sidechaining in Sonar 2015 in general or compressor sidechaining in particular ?
The documentation isn't very good on this topic.

It is stated that a PC4K S-Type bus compressor is offered in ProChannel for Buses (Platinum only, but I have platinum), but it doesn't. I still get a PC76 U type compressor that doesn't support sidechaining.

On YouTube, I found a Cakewalk video from 2012, where you insert a PC4K Exp/ Gate in ProChannel but I don't have it either.
The only choices I have are: Breverb 2, Bark of Dog, Console Emulator Bus, Console Emulator Channel, Panipulator, Rematrix Solo, Saturation Knob, Tape Emulator, VKFX Delay and FX Chain.

The video from 2012 does show how to use the PC4K-S Type Bus Compressor around 2:14 https://youtu.be/tkWeQR4UJf0?t=2m14s. The process has not changed since the video was made. Note: the PC4K-S Type Bus Compressor will work on tracks too as shown in the video. The PC4K-S Type Bus Compressor is bundled with Platinum but you cannot have both the PC76 and PC4K in the same Prochannel. If the PC76 is in the ProChannel, replace it with the PC4K-S Type.

I believe PC4K-S Compressor and Gate are not included in Platinum, and still have to be purchased separately...?

But the The old DirectX Sonitus compressor is sidechainable. Try that.

SONAR Platinum x64, 2x MOTU 2408/PCIe-424  (24-bit, 48kHz)

There are two PC4K-S type compressors. The Bus type is bundled with Platinum. The Channel type is an addon. Both support sidechaining. The Bus type predates the modular ProChannel and occupies the same slot in the ProChannel as the PC76. This means the ProChannel can only have one of the PC76 or the PC4K-S Type Bus compressors in it at a time. The video shows replacing the PC76 with PC4K-S Type bus compressor in a track.

There is a knowledge base article about sidechaining using the Sonitus plug-ins https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013049/Sidechaining-in-SONAR. The mechanics of the process have not changed since the article was written.

Thanks, that's the video I was mentioning except I only saw the first part because I couldn't find the prochannel modules mentioned (PC4K Exp/ Gate).

Not sure why the documentation is so utterly wrong.

So the secret is right clicking the compressor and choosing 'replace module', which gives me a choice of 11 Prochannels modules, instead of  Insert modules, which gives me a choice of only 10.

You only need to use "Replace Module" if the PC76 is already in the ProChannel. As explained above, the PC76 and PC4K-S bus compressor are mutually exclusive. They are among the oldest PC modules and share a slot in the channel. The video does not make a big issue about it but does cover replacing the PC76 with the PC4k-S bus compressor. If the PC76 was not in the ProChannel both compressors would show in the module pick list. One of the first customization I did with the ProChannel was remove the compressors from the track and bus defaults.

The documentation is pretty clear which compressor to use. I believe the steps in the help do not take into account the PC76 could already be in the ProChannel and that the two compressors cannot co-exist in the same channel strip.

Cedric - I realize your only choices are listed in your post, but for $50 you can make it completely super easy to accomplish some of the things you're probably after.

Here's a post from the Software section of this forum from a while back discussing this topic a bit.

Here are two links that can provide you a quick preview / glimpse of the answer. I think both of these links are also included in thread in the Software forum.

In fact, I worked on an older song yesterday.  It had a guitar strum chorus.  I applied some keys to the chorus and the tool mentioned above here and totally modernized the song in like 5 mins.  Made the song sound much better very quickly.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.
