Sigh

So I've been working about 2 hours on a 2 minute orchestral ditty.  Four instances of play with hollywood strings Gold samples, nothing else.  I've had sonar crash 6 times.  Is this normal?  I think it's my Tascam 2x2.  Windows 10 has been having trouble with the driver.  Maybe it's SONAR!  nevertheless, the biggest headache is that I can't export audio at all.  SPLAT crashes every time.  What can I do?!

    1. Verify that you have driver version 1.02 and firmware version 1.01.
    2. Re-install the drivers (not the firmware if it's up to date). Upon installing Windows 10 (an in-place update from Windows 7, not a clean install), I had to re-install the drivers before the interfaces worked properly. This was also the case with a 4x4 I tested.
    3. Which version of SONAR are you using?
    4. If you're using a hub, plug the interface directly into a motherboard USB port. Actually this is good advice for any audio interface, not just the 2x2.
    5. Are you doing real-time or fast export? It may seem counter-intuitive, but fast export is the most reliable option because it compensates for potential issues with real-time playback and latency.
    6. Try with the 64-bit double-precision engine turned off. Some systems don't like it.

I use the 2x2 with my HP laptop at Gibson, and the 20x20 at my home studio. Crashes happen rarely, maybe once a month if that, and I use SONAR every day. I also have been doing a ton of exports lately because I've been mixing down projects to two-track masters, and no problems with crashing.

FWIW because TASCAM and Cakewalk are both owned by Gibson, I know for a fact that SONAR was tested extensively with their interfaces, starting with the 2x2 and all interfaces since then. We'll figure it out.

Hmm,  I was using fast bounce.  Turned it off, and  my new piece *Prince Albert's Cave* was submitted to  my publisher on time.  Sort of a misdirectional cue, but your advice worked. As always, thanks Craig.

As far as the constant crashing..I *repaired* the drivers in the *programs* area of control panel (it's 64 bit windows 10).  We'll see if that works.  I already ordered a Focusrite Forte.  Please don't tell me that's got problems.

Pretty much all the advice about the TASCAM applies to any interface.
