Simple Instrument Track - Key to insert volume envelope does not work

I have F3 mapped to inserting a volume envelope.  On MIDI and AUDIO tracks this works fine. 

When I try it on a Simple Instrument Track, however, nothing happens.  I have to use the right click menu to add the envelope.

Has anyone else noticed this?  Is there a workaround?

    When you want to insert a "volume" envelope on the Simple Instrument Track, do you mean a midi or an audio envelope? If you split the track, you may find that you did indeed create a volume envelope, but not the one that appears in Simple mode (midi, I believe).

    I guess I mean a MIDI envelope, although some Kontakt instruments don't respond to MIDI volume changes, so I suppose audio volume envelope is better.

    Is there a way to bind a key to a particular type of volume envelope (midi or audio)?
