Simple Project File Locks Up
Grrrrr.... I am seriously annoyed... So, I bought X1 when it first came out.... under my Pentium 4 lame-o XP system I watched as it failed up open my Producer 8.5 projects, crashed, etc, and then sat back was watched the Cakewalk forum consternation built up.... then I watched as the follow-on patches came out.... finally Cakewalk felt good enough with X1c, then figured it was time to hit users up with more $$$ with X1 expanded (which I just bought, BTW). Sigh... Got the guts this past week to install X1 on my new machine (a brand new constructed by me clean i7-970, Windows 7, 64-bit machine, not connected to internet which has been running SPE 8.5 without flaw....)..... Messed around with a new project using Rapture, which I love..... I just installed Galbanum Picis on to the new machine then went on to spend an hour having fun.... found some cool sounds and laid down 8 measures, added a second track, fun fun fun..... Then.... Wife came in and started ****ing.... so I saved the project, shutdown, and went off to do home work..... sigh. Came back to my new X1 project yesterday and guess what, Sonar Producer X1 fails to open the file....it locks solid. SP 8.5 won't open it, SP 8 won't.... sigh.... (In X1's defense it is running the few other 8.5 projects I have tried it on.... but oh the fear exists that X1 could pull a fast one and kill loads of hours on those....).. I want to use X1, but am seriously concerned about the loss of work. (Will be saving off 8.5 build 'version' files in the mean time. So.... Cakewalk. I am here to say the job is not yet done. I will be looking for x1d patch. Please finish working out the kinks. I am a loyal customer, but oh how it kills to have my love and joy fail to open for god knows what reason. This was a hugely simple project - the start of something good. And no, the Picis sound files are not the problem. The machine is a clean fast lean box....and runs 8.5 awesomely. Rapture runs great. I am more than willing to send the *.cwp file in to anyone who wants a crack at opening it. X1 has a bit more development distance to go.... Jim: with all due respect there are 1000's of users running all day
with out any major error, now it sounds like you have system set
-up issues, if you would like help just ask, now as far as x-1 being a
issue like you posted, ur dead wrong, it your system not the software !!!

Yup send it to Cakewalk.
You haven't stated what it's like with new X1C projects.
It does sound like it is specific with old 8.5 projects.
Is it possible to run X1 and 8.5 side by side? If it was me I'd stick to 8.5 for the old projects and start new projects with X1.
If you are experiencing serious issues with new X1C projects then there's definately something up with your system.
Sell by date at 9000 posts. Do not feed. @48/24 & 128 buffers latency is 367 with offset of 38. All - thank you for the input. Sorry - need to be a bit more clear.... The locked up X1 project was a new X1 project (not one of my old ones). I was just a bit stunned that this happened. It was literally a 4 track project (2 midi and 2 audio).... 2 instances of Rapture... (The install of X1 was totally fresh too.... X1 and patches up through X1 expanded....) Have not had issues with X1 and my old projects.... I am not a power user.... just a very simple setup. Will run some more looks with X1 and new files before I gripe further.... @ Star.... my 'software' is a completely fresh install of Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit running on an i7-970 with 6 gig ram. 8.5 runs without flaw. I am running with no internet to the machine so no virus stuff is needed...very little overhead taxing the machine. About as clean as it gets. If it is failing because of my 'software' I would be seriously surprised.... all of my drivers are current.... Love the machine.... literally boots in a minute or two.... (This is the 4th machine I have built, BTW). So, this was one instance. I'll plug a stick into the machine and pull the cwp file off.... maybe Cakewalk will want to see it. Jim

RUBBISH!!! I'm so tired of this "de facto" commenting that "It's your system"! People said that about mine too - but I was able to run any other major Host/DAW without problems. Then along comes Sonar "Expanded" - and all of a sudden, like magic, my system can also now run Sonar X1(e) without issue. So stop immediately blaming the user or the system so quickly! Sometimes IT REALLY IS THE SOFTWARE. Sheesh - you really don't give up on this agenda to blame everyone's system, do you!

BTW, I used to have serious problems opening pre-X1 projects in X1 but I can now open any Sonar 8.x file in X1(E) and things are fine.
So that wasn't my system either :P

And MANY other users DID have my issues. You see things one way only. And you're very quick to "blame" the system of the user. Sometimes it is the user's system -- but you certainly aren't a clairvoyant to my knowledge. And you tend to guess rather than approach things with some methodology. But I realize you have an agenda of some sort. So go on with it.

What audio interfaces are you using? The base machine you describe certainly seems as clean as you can get and obviously has enough power to handle what you are doing. Are you using ASIO drivers? Any midi involved and if so is MTC being generated anywhere?

BTW - There is such a thing as Cakewalk technical supoort, I would suggest ****ing at them directly.... that will (of course) get you far. (I'm off as well).

Woah... a lively bunch.... feisty.... I am using the UM-3G midi to my Triton Extreme.... seriously.... no frills... I am very excited to be using X1 now... looks great... Was bummed that I lost my pathetically small project. The Rapture synth is amazing and ideas flow like wildfire. Lovin' it.... Now if I can just keep my wife occupied for a bit.... Will report the problem per Keith.... Thanks, all!

Did you try opening it in safe mode?

@Daveny5.... I owe you beer.... Safe mode worked! Was a VST issue/// I had brought in the Garritan Aria Player x86 vst (I should have used the x64 since I am a 64 bit system. DOH!!!! Right? Right!). The X86 worked just fine during composition (sounds and all), but failed to allow the file to open after I had closed X1.... did some testing and that was it! @Keith - sorry for any trouble. That was a simple dumbass mistake on my part and I should have remembered SAFE MODE.... I will write it my basement wall a bunch of times... (then we paint!).

Probably a "bridging" related issue...
(32Bit plugins have to be bridged to function in a 64Bit host.)
In general, opt for the 64Bit dll first. (Keep the 32Bit dll around as a backup in case the 64Bit dll is problematic)
By no means all... but a lot of issues reported with Sonar are plug-in related.
Bridging issues (problems) account for many of those.
