Simplest Drag & Drop Editing Function NOT WORKING!

I've been going over the Groove 3 videos and for some reason, I can not drag and drop a highlighted selection into new track.  I'm using SONAR X1 Essential.  I can highlight a measure, the move cursor is there, I'm dragging to a new track, drop and nothing.  The dragged clip appears to disappear and the selection is not removed from the original clip.  I've checked the drag and drop options, but nothing there seems to explain the problem.  I hope this is a simple solution.  Would appreciate any help.  Thanks.

    I think I found the answer.  I was able to do drag & drop on everything except the soft synths.  I guess you do all the editing with the step sequencer.  Hopefully things will keep running smoothly.
