Simulation of GUITAR on/off switch?

Yes, I have a crappy guitar with 2 knobs. I don't have an ON/OFF toggle switch.

I want to hit a sustained chord and toggle the sound ON/OFF to to beat; unfortunately I can't do it manually. You know, how Pete Townshend of the WHO would do it?

Any ideas on HOW I could do this post recording?

    I don't know of a plug-in but with enough time and effort using simple K command (erase parts of the waveform) or splice and dice you should be able to get close. Or just have a toggle switch installed. This is almost something you could do yourself if you're good with a soldering iron and drill. We're talking about what... five bucks in parts?

    The usual way this is done is with a guitar that has two volume knobs like a Les Paul, SG or the like. Turn the volume on one pickup all the way down and flick the switch back and forth.

    You could build a super simple foot pedal with a momentary switch that you can tap.

    If you stuff a wet cotton ball in their you might even get some *crackle*.

    Could you do this with a side-chained Gate? Put a side-chainable Gate in your guitar track effects bin, then use your Kick or Snare (or even hi-hat) track to trigger a guitar volume drop on each hit.

    I've done that a couple of times, and use Krizrox's splice-n-dice suggestion (althought it wasn't his when I did it .

    The switch that Byron is referring to is the pickup selector switch. The method he's described is precisely how I achieve this particular effect. You only need flick the switch to the middle position to cut off the signal. You could probably use krizrox's method, or use volume envelopes but they are more hit and misss than the PU switch method.
