Since SONAR X1 was released, I have never been so productive

...in SONAR 8.5.3.

It's true. Getting off the upgrade bus has been very liberating.

8.5.3 is a great platform to make music with, especially once you've learned which parts of the product are dodgy and learned to avoid or work around them.

I can't blame you! While X1 has been great for me and I wouldn't go back, I can understand the liberating feeling of not worrying about the next patch or quickfix!

There's nothing within or without 8.5.3 that's stopping you!

Of course we all agree with you. You should post this in the X1 forum. ;>

    I'm not that brave, Cactus!

For what it's worth, I have a personal list enhancements Cakewalk could make to X1 that would enable me to migrate comfortably. I'm sure we all do...

I have a list of feature requests that have been submitted over the last 5 years and never implemented.  That's one of the reasons why I have not upgraded since version 7.

I broke down and downloaded the trail X1 a few weeks ago. I first loaded some old projects and messed around with just some edits , overdubs and mixing. Seems about the same generally speaking, Could not really see any improvements from my perspective. I guess I’m old school and only want certain things from a DAW. I’m disappointed that there is still no wave editor. And I simply hate the windows. I’m picky about what view I need open and were it should be on the screen. If there’s a way to override the default it was beyond my patients.

Then the bugs!  I inserted an EFX bus, I then inserted the send on a vocal track. It also inserted into the bass track?? Tried a few times making sure nothing was weird in my selection?  There was other random weirdness I figured was either bugs or my ineptness with the software. But still it makes no sense to someone who has been using Sonar for a few years and has it more or less under full control.

So later I started a new project to see if this would go smoother.
Session drummer 3 was out to lunch. I’ve used it plenty and never had issues with it ever. It kept loading random patterns even though I don’t use them from the GUI. It also made a loud crash when you hit the space bar to start? I was forced to revert to TTs-1 to keep moving after wasting 3 hours on that.
The copy paste function seemed to remove all but one drum part at random, sometimes just the kick sometime the snare???
Even though I used snap to grid 1/8 notes, quantize 16th,  I found out later that all my MIDI tracks were in la la land!
The song I created after 2 days was a train wreck timing wise as a result.

I AM SO HAPPY TO BE USING 8.5 64 bit! I hope my DVD’s never fail to install on the future generations of computers.

    I totally agree James.

Sonar has never been this stable for me.

It just laughs at everything I throw at it, it's like it's saying "is that all ya got?"

Sorry about the large font, You can't use Firefox and Chrome I do not like, so that leaves  IE which lacks a spell checker so I used MS Word . Because I used firefox there are no options to change font size ,, didn't think it would look that odd.. Anyhow fixed.

I realize the majority of Sonar users are well entrenched in X1 by now. The rest of us will carry on happily getting work done without further interuptions. Look at all the folks who are even happy to stay with S6 or 7. Nothing wrong with that if it does everything you need.

Have you tried iespell for Internet Explorer? Back before I switched to Firefox I used it as a spellchecker in IE.

I don't like Chrome either but I do use it for this forum, for reasons that are obvious to many of us.

I'm using Firefox 5.0 which seems to run fine on this system

    With proper paragraph breaks.

    S:

I can't believe that I still haven't upgraded either.  This is the first time since Cakewalk for DOS that I have skipped an upgrade.  I have completed multiple 8.5.3 projects and have three more in progress.  My needs are engineering primarily - CD and Broadcast.  I don't need the production tools that Sonar has to include in order to compete in the Loopy/Beaty/Livey market.

I have chosen to sit and wait out the revisions while 8.5.3 works just fine.  I doubt that I will hold out too long even if I don't use the new product.

I would add that I spend about 60% of my time in PT now partly as a result of the X1 direction and some of the issues that I read about - I still prefer Sonar hands down in many ways, but have learned to choose my tool per project.
