Size / Length of Midi Clips?

I've used Sonar on and off for years, but just started getting back to it recently....
This is a frustration I keep encountering and 'working around', but I'm wondering if there's a 'proper' way to do this?

When I'm working in 'arranger view' (moving clips around, copying / pasting etc.), I tend to use snapping at 1 measure.
If I've created a midi clip where the notes don't start on the first beat of the bar, the clip starts with the first note (not the start of the bar). If I then move/copy the clip with snapping at 1 measure, the notes then end up playing on the wrong beat (which is annoying).
I've worked around this by inserting a short note with minimum velocity at the start of the bar to 'force' the clip to start on the first beat - is this the only way to resolve this? Or is there a better way??

Thanks!

Slip-edit the beginning to a measure or beat boundary, and as long as you don't bounce the clip to itself, the extra space will remain as you move the clip around.

Thanks - I wasn't sure what you meant by 'slip-edit' - but having looked online I can see that I do this with audio clips but never really thought to use the same technique on midi clips.
I'll give that a try

Thanks again for the quick response - much appreciated!

Or change snap mode from 'To' to 'By'. This will work for drag-moving/copying, but not for cut/copy-paste.

Process > Slide can also be useful for moving unquantized clips/notes.

It's a long-standing bug that they keep treating as a feature.   "Slip-edit" for a midi clip ends up meaning, yeah, it's a bug, but we'll put an invisible event at the beginning of the bar for you so our bad programming finds something to catch onto.   I use a simple controller value; anything works.   Go to the place you want the selection to start and insert an event of some sort in the fastest way possible.

It's a workaround, of course.    You'd think the programmers would eventually get the idea to accept the notion that in midi, you want a selection by bars/beats, not by actual events.

Also, if your 'clips' are hundreds of bars long, you lose the focus of what you were working on to try to do anything with slip edit.   So simply insert a controller.   You can set a keyboard short cut to the "Insert Series of Controllers" under the main Insert Menu.   Then, as long as you don't regularly use this for other purposes, you could add something simple like a 0 pitch bend or a CC2 value of 0 at the beginning of your intended selection.

Each midi track that you want to be affected has to have some event in the selection range (bug, of course) but only one of the tracks has to have an event right at the beginning of your desired selection.
