Slate VCC, Gain Staging...and me NOT knowing what I'm doing

OK...this might be Mixing 101 (or 001...ha), but I just watched the video below after seriously considering buying Slate VCC and have to admit that I HAVE NEVER done any gain staging, calibrating, etc., as outlined in the tutorial.  Obviously it isn't just for Slate VCC (although that was the focus of the vid), but the tone I got was that it was a really important component of setting up for a quality mix.

Should I be "concerned" about this?!?  I wish I didn't know about all the things I don't know about mixing...

You do NOT need to buy the Slate stuff to achieve correct gain staging. It is a technique and not product related.

    Try this video as well:

I suggest you look at all the videos that are there on gain staging and you will get the idea.

No...thanks Jeff...I understand (about the only thing I know) that I don't need VCC for gain staging.  My main question was whether I should be gain staging at all since I never have.

I'll check out your link now!  Thanks.
