Slate VCC users/ RC-Tube console added

One way of using the The Slate Digital Virtual Console is by using the non-digital approach of slamming the mix buss close (or into overs) and then lower its fader back into non-clipping. I'd like to see how users of this plug are setting it up & what you think of it.

I'm running mine by using groups (drums-bass/ gtrs/ vox/ main instruments) with an instance of the VCC mixbuss on each, along with a trim plug to hit each bus, then reducing Sonar's bus faders.
I was concerned about using this approach but it seems to work nicely.
I'm getting some nice sounding & punchy mixes.

I use it...but haven't really mixed with it yet.  I have a VCC on every channel and buss and the mix buss on the master.  But as of now I haven't mixed anything off yet.

I tried the very first beta and that **** was buggy as hell (at least that was my experience when I tested it in SONAR 8.5.3 x64).  I'm sure they've fixed most of the bugs by now, but it was totally unusable for me at the time.  I even deinstalled it from my system before the trial was over.  Wasn't very impressed :-)

To be honest, I found Decapitator by SoundToys to be much better than VCC.  However, all the SoundToys plugins are buggy as well, so I'm just waiting until they release the next update that's supposed to fix all the bugs...or so they say...before I buy them all.  I'm also waiting for Juice to be released, which I'm sure will sound amazing!

That's one thing you can say about SoundToys, they're buggy but they ALL sound amazing!!!  They're the most analog sounding and original plugins I've ever tried.  Let me tell ya, I'm not easily impressed with plugins (I don't even like the VCC that much, remember? :-P), but SoundToys and FabFilter are a few of the companies I am really impressed with.  They create plugins that are ahead of the pack.  If only FabFilter would make a MultiBand Compressor...yum!

Sorry, I went rampage on this post.  Just got back from a gig, and it's late as hell.

    Carry on! :-)

Totally agree Jose, ol pal.  I used my Sound Toys for about 1 glorius, solitary month on my ol 32bit XP system before moving up to my new Screamin 64bit system and I was totally bummed when I found they wouldn't work with either BitBridge or JBridge.  The new update they just released claims to have fixed all that...but it hasn't.  But at least they do work now, albiet a bit sketchily.  They are just fabulous plugs.  I hope they port to 64bit soon.

On the VCC side of things...I got in on the beta buy and only the Neve setting doesn't work for me.  I actually quite like the plug and, knowing how Steven operates, I believe that not only will all the bugs be worked out...but that we'll get enhancements as well.  Plus...we get a new iLok to boot!

    OlPal,

I'm sure the VCC has improved a lot since the time I used it.  Back then it was crashing SONAR everytime I wanted to use the link function on all the tracks.  Sometimes, merely inserting several instances would cause problems for me, so it was very unstable then.  From what you're saying though, it sounds like they've taken care of the most critical bugs.  Still, I personally wasn't blown away with the sound of the VCC.  Don't get me wrong, it sounds good, but it just didn't blow my mind like Decapitator did.  I almost bought the SoundToys Native bundle and was willing to deal with all of the graphical glitches, Bitbridge instabilities and bouncing issues they have in SONAR x64 because that's how good all their plugs sound to me.  But I decided to wait until Juice is out to buy the whole bundle, especially because I get a 50% student/teacher discount (gotta take advantage of that ;-).

By the way, when was the SoundToys update released?  I've been looking at their website from time to time and haven't seen any news of it (perhaps I missed it).  And what have they fixed?  Which bugs are still there?

    Thanks in advance!

New Update was just a week or so ago.  It does make ST more stable in 64bit X1.  It is not , however, the be all and end all fix...that will be (I hope) 64bit.  But at least I can use them again!!  Go get ya some!

Ah, nice to hear that OldPal.  I'm still waiting for Juice to come out before I buy though.  I want to get the whole bundle.

They became 'must haves' for me ever since I tried them.  I was just waiting for them to fix the issues in x64.

Thanks for letting me know they work better now :-)

Using it more the public release has some great new features over the betas.
Took me a while to figure out how to get my previous x64 2.5 beta projects to open using the x86 dlls but now it works fine.

No, just the 4.  As I remember reading a while back those original 2 that were first included will be a seperate add on pack type of purchase.
BUT whoever bought the betas like us will get it free when it's available.

Not yorolpal but the betas do save them, V1 doesn't. It's a bug, there's a few issues.
Slate says to expect a tues/ wed. update, don't hold your breath though.

It seems like an ad for some sort of expansion consoles you can add to the VCC.

OK Baps, I've gone back and listened to a random drum track from one of my magnum opuses with nothing but the VCC on and off it....and...I can definitely hear a "very subtle" difference between the three (The Neve doesn't work at all on my Beta) console emulations.  Personally, I prefer the SSL.  Mind you, it IS subtle...and don't forget about all that lovely hiss...but I much prefer it.  Maybe "Juice" from SoundToys will be more "evident" when listening.  Maybe we've all gone stark raving crazy.  I'm certainly willing to believe I have.  YMMV.

Maybe it's all just too subtle for me to hear. As you as MMMV.

BTW, I don't hear any added hiss. Maybe the diff between Beat and Release?

And I say this wrt my DAW and my laptop, with speakers and headphones. The only thing I hear is a level change, drive make no never mind nor does changing the console (even with full level and drive and faders at >=0db).

    Still like the FG-X though.

Hey Baps, I just sent you via YouSendIt a couple of drum files.  They are with the VCC on the 4K console with input and drive at 3 on both channel and mix buss...and without.  It's a no brainer to just hear the volume difference.  But there is a (subtle...admittedly) difference also in the "gluey" factor of the two.  Or I am nekkid as a jaybird.  Pick em, Hortense.  But, really, It's fairly evident and gooey.  And I like it. YMMV.

YMMV.

OK, I'm hearing the subtle yet effective difference in your sample. I'm not sure I've been getting that. Or I'm not listening to my own stuff as critical.
