I dunno 'bout this one. It's not like my mic locker and preamp choices are seriously lacking. I wonder what bitflipper will have to say about this one.

OK, just watched the video. My initial reaction above was based on it solely being a VST only. I'm imagining each mic will be in the $1000 range and the preamp being in the $2000 range. Hopefully it comes with all the stock VSTs in the vid while I suspect the add on VSTs will be in $99 range.

Frankly, neither the "classic neuman/neve" or the slate setup sounded very good to me. Of course, that could just be Steven's screechy, warbling yowl. Looks to be for the "pros". Who would already have a decent locker and pres. It's getting to where I have a really hard time actually hearing any "improvement" in much of the newer plugs coming out. A combination of my old ears and the teency bit of improvement (if any) the plugs offer.

One thing you can be sure of with all the new plugs, myolpal, is that you'll be out $49 to $99. How does that "sound" to you?

I have Antares Mic Modeler...good enough for me... Isn't anything spectacular, but it does add some character in the right application.

a) +1 b) have not tried it yet. It was packaged in my AVOX EVO package so it's not like I went out of my way to "get it".

I think Mic Modeler is one of the best things Antares has to offer...which, I guess, is damning with faint praise.

What I worry about anything slate is that despite the proclamations that new products don't stop development on existing products, once released his vstis rarely see updates. Vcc has a slew of known bugs, non show stoppers, but reported bugs none the less and there hasn't been an update in quite some time. Same deal with with ssd 4, fgx, etc. I get it that there are only so many hours in a day for a small company, but I'd be hard pressed to lay out any substantial sum of money for anything slate that is software related. For the record I have Vcc, fgx, ssd with both expansion packs and virtual tape. I like the products, so this isn't meant to be a slam, just something to think about.

I would like to have the plug but do not need or want the preamp. I feel like you must have the preamp for the plug to work. If so I am out. But I will buy the VMR! As soon as it comes out.

You would definitely need the pre. It's going to work a bit like ARC - you have to use their microphone because they know the characteristics of the mic. In Slate's case, the mic and the pre together have a sonic profile which is accounted for going into the virtual mic/pre models. They'd have to know the exact profile of your mic and pre in order to give a model based on your equipment, and even then you'll run into the mic limitations. I'm guessing the mics and the pre are about as clean as you can get, to give them a clean sonic plate to run through the modelers...

I suppose if you didn't have any mics or pre amps this could be a good place to start if the price were competitive - but I would imagine a lot of people have made their choice of mics / pre amps - I know I have and the sound I get from them is acceptable and I suppose I can say its OUR sound - so I'm not sure for me that I would want to change no matter how good or competitively priced it is, if you see what I mean. Ok...I can buy one HE** of a Preamp and Mic for that kind of money ($2,000.00)... IJS....oh, but you get the plugin.....DEHR.... All I can say is at the price this had better be one heck of a Mic and Preamp... Seriously, that would get you a nice Nuemann (or a couple of decent Mics) and a decent preamp.... buy Mic Modeler and you're all set.... What the heck is SS thinking? Oh yeah, and whatever happened to the "vaporware" Virtual Rack System that was supposed to be out months ago? Just my thoughts...

Well if 200 of us pitch in $10 we can get this for Bapu... I, for one, would like to hear Bapu's "Real World Report", henceforth known as BRWR... Just call BR-549

More like we'd need 2000 to pitch in $1. At that, after two weeks of promoting the account would be a -$3 I'm sure.
