Slate's new plug-ins...

Saw this one announced yesterday - to be released in November. Just how many of those do we need? You tell me. 

But having used his drums for a while and having recently started using Tube-RC - which I bought after only a couple of hours playing w/ the demo - I have to admit that this guy and his team of coders know something about sound (as much as get tired of seeing his face everywhere). Anyway...

Virtual Buss Compressors offer three unique sounding, 100% analog modeled dynamic processors that are ideal for program material.
Every nuance of real analog compressors has been modeled including the exact non-linear characteristics of their transformers, tubes, VCAs, amplifiers, phase distortions, harmonic distortions, and timing.  The first compressor is called the FG4014. It is modern, clean, pristine, and can compress program material in a musical but transparent manner. It is perfect for all types of mixes and masters, and even sounds great on drum overheads and acoustic guitar.
The second compressor is called the FG8014. This analog beast of a compressor is a hybrid model of a famous British console compressor combined with characteristics of another famous compressor known for its red faceplate. It's punchy, fat, tight, and rich sounding, with a drive control that can enhance the transformer saturation to give it even more attitude. The third compressor is called FG MU. It is modeled after the classic Fairchild 670, but then Slate Digital added characteristics of two modern Vari MU compressors as well. It has a warm, fat, deep, musical character that is perfect for all types of music. For mastering, it can add the final bit of glue, air, depth, and transient sparkle. 
All of the compressors in the VBC bundle have a variable hi pass filter, and a mix knob that can be used to control the ratio of the compressed signal to the dry signal. The FG MU can be used in stereo and mid/side. Each compressor can be used in a series, and the series can be rearranged by dragging and dropping. The series also makes it very easy to A/B/C the compressors on source material.

Yesterday, right before I took a midnight nap.. lol..  I made one of my, "famous comments."  But today I just want to say, "there are so many compressors."  Yeah..  If I had an unlimited budget, maybe I would buy these things, and retire other compressors.  But since my budget for software compressors is not $25,000 over the next 30 years, I am afraid I am going to pass...  I already have compressors, that I have paid for, that I am totally not using...   Sad, but that is the case with all these bundles, givaways, and inexpensive software tools...

I'm drowning in compressors.  However...  These look awesome!  I am sure they sound awesome.  And I totally would buy em, if my budget was, "awesome."

I'm sure Steven will do well with this...but I have to agree...how many compression, eq, verb, etc... MODELS do we need.



Apparently every friggin possible one.

They need to start pricing software like, "disposable razors."  Between the three posters in this thread, "at least 1,000 compressors," must be installed.

I am using 3 compressors in my latest track.  1 of them is the P64 Percussion Strip ( bundleware ), and the other 2 are from the brand new D-Cam Dynamic..  ( Comes with 4 dynamics plugs, I just bought the damn thing, ) and now we have the new Slate Compressors here..

But is that logical?  Can I even use them?  IMHO, I can only use them, if I start to retire some compressors...  I am bursting, absolutely bursting with compressors...  LMFAO!!!

I am not buying another compressor!  LOL..  This isn't even a third of the compressors installed..   What about the two on the Pro-Channel?  The four in Ableton Live.  The two in Renoise, the 2 dozen in Reaper, and the 25 freeware and random ones..  That are installed...

I still don't have the one I've always wanted...the Softube TubeTech CL1B.  I just keep talking myself out of it because I have so many other great comps and end up getting more esoteric sound design plugs instead.  And probably, when I DO end up getting it on some super sale thingy I'm sure I'll go.  Well...it certainly compresses.  How about that?  And that blue colored gui is shore purdy!!!

Absolutely LOVE the softube one and use it a lot. My buddy's head turned after the first time I used it on a project. He said I did something different and it was good.

Count me as being among the Softube fans.  But IMHO their best work to date has been the plugs they did for Native Instruments:  the Vintage compressors and the Premium Tube series.  Those things are amazingly good, particularly the comps.  Don't let the Guitar Rig requirement dissuade you from trying the Vintage line -- they're well worth the extra bit of work to set up. 
 
Back on topic:  I'll be demoing the new Slate compressor as soon as I can, but as with anything, it'll have to give me something I need and can't get elsewhere for me to buy it.  That turns out to be true of very few plugins, in my experience. 
 
Anyway, these are good times for ITB music production -- the way things are going with HW power and advances in modeling, pretty soon nobody will be able to tell which recordings were done with studio-quality desks and outboard gear, and which were done by hobbyists on their computers.  At least, that's my theory.  Time will tell.

Incidentally, I thought the newest line of plug-ins they did for NI did not require Guitar Rig. 

Correct on the newer Premium Tube series.  It's the older Vintage comps that need the GR shell, and while it would be nice to be rid of that, the sound of these plugs makes it a small price to pay.  Free demo available, for those interested.

I still have a $50.00 voucher from previous Slate purchases.
I may use on this if I decide it's worth $150.00.
Either that or wait until Black Friday, that's coming soon enough.
