Slice of Paradise - new original song
Hi forum folk Here's a new song I wrote and recorded with the aid of a very nice solo from James (jamesg1213) Griffiths. Nits and crits welcome https://soundcloud.com/skyblueproductions/slice-of-paradise Slice of Paradise Written and performed by Staypress Guitar solo by James Griffiths V1 We've been a couple for so long I forgot whats right, whats wrong You've been selling me out Fear uncertainty and doubt Prechorus ...and I don't know why you get so defensive You've got me going on a charm offensive Chorus Why upset the apple cart? We've got so much to give We've got our little slice of paradise to live V2 I used to be one in a million You used to be so brilliant You've got a prize for me A medal for mediocrity Prechorus Chorus Middle bit Though we no longer love in the same way We show our love every single day Chorus to end with added fud

This is neato! I was expecting a little more testosterone in James's solo, but it suits the song fine.

Really well done. It’s so upbeat and catchy that the only thing that strikes me weird is the line “though we no longer love in the same way”. Not sure what that means and it’s none of my business, but it seems like a bit of a buzz kill. Maybe, just maybe I have totally taken this all wrong - would not be the first time. Good tune, terrific playing and singing.

Oh, I totally get it. Every marriage or other romantic relationship grows a little cold over time. You still love each other, but it's not the fiery kind of love you once had. It's more refined for some when they realize there are more important things than romantic love such as trust, loyalty, and selflessness. For others it's not that at all but instead becomes more of a love of circumstances, a comfortable home life. It's fine--just different. Good song guys. Well done. Bill

Nicely written and arranged, well captured and performed, excellent choice of tone from James on the lead. All round great track.

Daryl, Fantastic track. Sounds current but with a hint of an 80's nod in the drum track (i.e. synthetic cowbell and general sound) Like it very much. Cool guitar solo as well. Reminds me a little of David Gilmour. Regards

Catchy tune in a laid back style, just the way a song should be. I like the "medal for mediocrity" I have a trophy case full of them.

This is great. It has the whole package -- good lyrics, catchy hooks, solid instrumentation, and the vocals are a good match with the tune. Like the hot ending. Well done guys.

Daryl, you most definitely have your own sound. All of the songs I've heard of yours have something in them that links them together, sound wise. That's what I love about the great Burt Bacharach. You know from the first bar or two that it's a Bacharach song. Yours are becoming that way too. Not saying all of your tunes sound the same, but are in the same style and same overall sound. The Staypress Sound. Be proud of it.

Enjoyed hearing this one very much! The Vocals are right in front of you and easy to hear. That's not always the case in a lot of songs. But what I really like, while the vocals are right in front, you can still hear everyone else also. I'm no mix master that's for sure, but I like what I hear with the mix. Even more so, I love the song!!!

Love does mature in different ways but still can be there. This is nothing but a terrific number. I tried really hard to come up with a crit. but just couldn't find one. Parts of this song remind me a bit of Brazil '66 and I love them. You two have really put out some great songs but I would put this one at the top of the list. Excellent!!!

Really clean mix. Cool song too. Like the middle bit where it drops to just bass and synth for a minute.

Great work, mate! Every sound is a piece of art, dipped in saturation and mixed together to an quirky master-piece (pun embedded). Catchy chorus with the portamento synth following the bass living it up. Great playing as well, James! Lovely transition from wild west solo back to the chorus.
