Slide Over Old to Make Room

I am new to Home Studio 2004 XL, having previously used Cakewalk Express 3.01!

I am only using midi, and entering notes via the computer keyboard.

I am having problems with the Paste, 'Slide Over Old to Make Room' option.

Basically any notes on the first beat of the old bar stay where they are, and blend with notes in the first pasted bar, while the rest of the notes slide over.

When copying several bars from two or more tracks at the same time, I have had all the notes in the first old bar stay where they are and blend with the pasted notes, which leaves the first bar slid over empty. The effect can be different in different tracks - some track only one note staying put; other tracks all the notes from the first old bar staying put - which obviously leaves a confusion.

This option worked correctly in Express. I even downloaded the Sonar 4 and 5 Producer Demos, and these also work correctly. My conclusion is that Home Studio 2004 has a bug. Could someone confirm this?

(I did do a search and found one mention of this RE: midi help with note insertion and rest deletions - 3/25/2005 1:36:12 AM, but this post had no further answers)

(EDIT - I note in the FAQs that "File and image attachments are not allowed". This is a pity as an anotated screenshot saved as a .jpg would make the explanation easier.)

Thanks,
Steve.

Pictures would be immensely helpful in many situations. There is a way to do it, but it seems to involve clicking your heels together and chanting" there's no place like home".
Does anybody have any leverage with Cakewalk to make this easier?

I believe I have just had the same thing happen with mine.(HS 2004)
Have you tried selecting the "Align to measures" check box? When I selected this and then tried pasting, it worked!(in my case)

yes, it seems like there is a slight problem with this function, but I have never had to use it before and therefore don't have a problem with it.
is it really that hard to drag and drop the midi tracks over?

    Thanks Ryan

Unfortunately the same bug occurs if 'Align to Measures' is checked (The first note still does not slide over; the remaining notes slide correctly and align.)

I also tried selecting notes and Drag and Drop as you suggested, but selecting 'Slide Over Old to Make Room' in the 'Drag and Drop Options' box, still gives the same bug, with or without 'Align to Measures' selected. (Again this all works correctly in the Sonar Demos)

Or was that what you meant when you said
'is it really that hard to drag and drop the midi tracks over?'
    - did you mean tracks? I only want to insert bars of music.

    Steve.
