Slow Playback speed

I just started with MC3 (switched from pro-audio). On playback WAV and audio files are way slower and more distorted than they should be ( I didn't have this problem in pro-audio). Does anybody have an answer as to how to bring me up to speed. Please do a step by step, I'm not as computer literate as I should be.

Right now I'm running 16 bit, 2 buffer, at 100+MS
I have a SiS 7018 sound card with no documentation.

PS: what is sample port and do I need it? THANX!

    the first thing I would try would be to change your driver mode to MME

    OPTIONS>AUDIO>ADVANCED>DRIVER MODE = MME
    close MC
    reopen MC
    let the wave profiler run

    if that doesn't work, we'll look at something else.

    sample port is a program that comes with MC which allows you to download loops - I THINK. I don't have it, so i'm not certain about that.
