Small graphic bug
Have you tried to go up in your software synth list? Lets say you have 50 software synths and you are down to Z, such as Zebra. And you want to insert Addictive Drums. When inserting soft synth, it opens with menu at a last location, so you will see your Z plugins. To go up to Addictive Drums, you have to use Up arrow. Well- it only lets me click up arrow twice. On a 3rd time, it becomes "Minimize" and minimizes entire Sonar window. Then I have to go through the insert soft synth procedure all over again, and again I can only move 2 points up, and then it minimizes a window instead of moving soft synth menu. It feels as if you click on the wrong spot, but it actually the same spot, it only reacts twice to menu, and then it thinks- you want to minimize the window. Ugh. Please, fix it soon. I need to insert soft synths all the time and it takes forever to move up the list. Thank you.

I have never had that many synths loaded into a single project - it just does not apply to the music I am creating in Sonar, though after listening to what you are doing I understand why you have all of those present. I would suggest you submit that as a feature request. Bob Bone

Where are you looking at the list of synths? In the browser, the fx bin, the synth rack or somewhere else??

Bob, I did not say anything about loaded synths. The issue is with inserting that first or 2nd or any synth. The top menu where you have "File", "Edit" and so on, there is "Insert". When you click "Insert", it has option for effect, soft synth and some other options. When you click Soft Synth, it opens a list of soft synth names. It opens at what ever soft synth you inserted last. If it was Zebra, it opens at Z, and it would not let you use "Up" arrow more that 2 clicks. Then it "Minimizes" the entire Sonar window, which causes "Insert" menu close and you would have to start all over. So if you need to go 50 titles up. you have to repeat Insert operation 25 times. Moving from Z back to A is a pain.

VERY sorry I misunderstood. I just ran a couple of tests in X3e, one inserting a synth inside the synth rack, and the other using the Insert tab at the top of the screen (next to File, Edit, etc). I have 46 synths, plus some of those are expandable, and I am able to click the arrows either the top or bottom of the list as often as I like, with no problems. This works for me for either inserting from within the Synth Rack, or from the Insert tab. I am just not seeing the same results. I will say that Sonar will go to semi-minimized (the in-between size), if while I am clicking on the up arrow in the Insert tab list I accidentally click the Title Bar of Sonar twice. That happens if I am clicking fast to scroll the list back up and I accidentally move the mouse off of the list and it happens to be then sitting on the Sonar window's Title Bar when I double click. That soft synth list is always all the way at the top, resting on the bar. And it always semi-minimizes the Sonar window after 2 clicks. I do not know how many plugins it lets you see without needing to use the up/down arrows, but when using upper arrow, there is no way to be careful not to press in the wrong place. I have tried little lower, little higher, to the side, to the other side- always the same. If you experienced it at least once- it is not that you click in the wrong place. I thought so too at first. But- no, it is not you. It is the arrow button. It is not stable, it minimizes Sonar as if you were able to click through it. I dont know if it gets worse with more plugins- at first I thought I am not clicking in the right place, but now it happens every time. And I constantly need to use it to insert soft synths, so it is frustrating. What other way do you insert soft synth? Thank you.

Well - if you hit 'B' for the Media Browser Pane, then click on Synth, you will see a + and an X up at the top left of the Browser Pane. Click on the + to add a synth to the synth rack, then expand presumably VST2, to get the big list of them. I do not know if this would behave any differently for you, as the list looks to be in the same relative height as the list that you get when you hit the Insert tab and get the list through that method. In any case, if I get to the bottom of the list of VST 2 synths and want to scroll back up, I just click ON the arrow at the top and hold it, and it will auto-scroll upward. I stop when I get a bit past the one I really want, then release the mouse and click exactly on the one I want to insert. It has never caused me any trouble with minimizing anything, so i am not sure how it keeps happening on your screen. Try the above and post back :) Bob Bone

vladasyn The top menu where you have "File", "Edit" and so on, there is "Insert".
With the list open, type a letter. For example if you type A, the list will jump to the first synth that starts with A. Type Z, and it goes to Z. If you have more than one synth that starts with the same letter, each time you type the letter it moves down the list until you reach the end of synths with that letter, and then it jumps back. For example, suppose you have Absynth, Addictive Drums, and Arp 2600, and are at the end of the list with Zebra. Type A, the list jumps to Absynth, and it's selected (hit return if you want to start the insertion process). If you type A again, then Addictive Drums is selected. Again, and Arp 2600 is selected. Again, and you return to Absynth. This is the quickest way to move quickly around lists.

Yup - that's actually a Windows convention for moving through lists. It works in things like My Documents - just type 'M' to jump to the documents beginning with 'M', and each subsequent hitting of 'M' moves to the next document beginning with 'M'. Bob Bone

I agree these menus should be updated, you should at least be able to mouse wheel up and down them.
