Smart Tool Not Working in Tempo Map

I just did some editing in the tempo map, (opened in the Multidock), and the Smart Tool does not appear to function.  The Hud would not open and I had to go to the main menu to change tools.  Is this the intended behavior?  If not, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

The Smart tool auto-reverts to the Draw pencil when Tempo View is opened in my Multi-Dock here. I can select the Erase tool, etc from the HUD and they all work as expected. I am guessing only, that this is the intended behavior. Not sure why the HUD wouldn't open at all for you - If it matters, I have my HUD on my Control Bar which is floating below the Multidock, on my primary monitor (dual screens).

    Thanks Brando.

Yes, the default tool is the Draw Pencil tool.  If the HUD would open I'd be set.  I keep the MultiDock open on my second monitor and just tab through the various views.  I generally open the HUD by clicking the wheel button.

It is probably a valid thought but what would you want to use the other tools for in the Tempo view, just asking out of interest.

Well, in this case I wanted to use the 'Straight Line' Pencil tool.  It's not a deal breaker by any stretch.  I was just curious why the HUD would not open.

    Thanks.

That is a perfectly good reason for wanting to open the HUD perhaps the tempo view has not received any reworking since the X days because if I remember correctly these tools were available from the tempo view tool bar in the pre X days or is my furry mind deceiving me.

PS Just tested in SONAR 8.5(x) and the tools are in the tempo view tool bar.

Try shortcut T, I believe it should work anywhere. Wheel-Click is not always bound to the HUD. The Tempo view appears to be one of those areas.

The Tempo view does affect shortcuts in an odd way. You may notice after immediately opening the Tempo view, T works nowhere. Click anywhere else in SONAR and T works everywhere again. Click in the Tempo view and it is disabled again.

Edit: I just noticed T and SHIFT+T are bound to Tempo Properties and Tempo List respectively.

Since The tempo view already captures T for "Tempo Properties" it may be easier to go into Preferences > Customizations > Keyboard Shortcut, search for HUD in the Global Area and bind "Global Tools HUD" to a different key.

It should not be necessary to create a custom binding for this. I am guessing T for "Tempo Properties" is a shortcut from Pre-X days which needs to be remapped and/or the Wheel+Click needs to be added for this view.

For those playing along, I believe the problem is accessing HUD not the smart tool. There is only one smart tool, the star icon in the HUD. It does appear that HUD access is broken in the Tempo view.

So if I understand correctly, the Smart Tool is not available in the Tempo View, (which makes sense, I guess).  The 'Tempo View' Tool Bar is no longer present and so the HUD, (or some sort of access to the various editing tools) should be available and is not.  My solution was to select tools from the main menu.

    Is that about it?

The Smart Tool is available, it is the first tool in the HUD. I would think the HUD should be easier to access in the Tempo view but the current shortcuts do not work. The current shortcuts are
    • T - which is taken over by a hardwired call to "Tempo Properties" and
    • Wheel+Click - which does not appear to be active in the view

Currently to access the HUD while working in the Tempo view
    • Use the Control Bar module or
    • Add a custom shortcut in Preferences to "Global Tools HUD" in the Global Area
I do not believe this is by design but the result of changes over time. If you want the current HUD shortcuts active in the Tempo view, I would recommend filing a Problem Report adding the CWBRN to the subject of the first post (I would also modify the subject to something like "[CWBRNnnnnn] - Unable to Access HUD in Tempo view")  and this will get moved to the Problem Reports forum.

It is also possible to change tools with F5 through F10.
