Smart grid without snapping ?

I was really looking forward to use the smart grid function for manual audio editing. But I cannot find a way to have the smart grid active while snapping is inactive, which to me was the actual point of the hole deal.
Does anyone know if this is possible?

I don't think it is but if you turn the sensitivity of the grid down as low as it'll go it's almost like it's turned off.

I suggest you use the "N" key to turn of snap when you are about to perform an edit that does not require snap. Then just hit "N" again when you are done to enable the smart grid. This is how I work with it.

Another suggestion is to try lowering the snap intensity in the preferences. This will achieve what you are looking for as well. The only draw back is you need to go in and out of the preferences to toggle that behavior on and off.
Using the "N" key is the best option I think.

    Hi Fastbiker,

Yes, I thought of that as the closest I could come to a solution and I can live with that. But it is a bit strange that you can't turn of the snapping, isn't it?

    Hi Hansenhaus,

Ok, I see now that you atually can have the Smart Grid active with snapping inactive. The problem is rather that it only goes up to a 1/4 note resolution.
    Could that be fixed/changed, Cakewalk?
