"Snake Charmer" (Rock) MIX #2 - Thanks Everyone for all the Input and Suggestions!

"Snake Charmer" (Rock)

Hi again, guys!

It's been a while.  Due to a very busy work schedule and crazy real life, I took about a year off from music, writing, recording, mixing and even playing.  Finally, about a month ago the music bug bit again and I was able to free up a couple hours for the studio.  Unfortunately, it's like relearning everything about recording and mixing again and trying to get my studio "ears" back.  LOL, Not to mention my decades old guitar calluses are gone and I'm like a 12 year old guitar "virgin" bleeding all over the fret board!  Anyway, I'm happy to be back again and working on some new music.

I just uploaded a Test Mix for a new song called "Snake Charmer".

If you can spare a few moments to check it out, as always, any and all helpful comments, suggestions, constructive criticism, input and ideas are very welcome, and also greatly appreciated!

Big thanks in advance for any observations, suggestions, comments and ideas!  You guys are the BEST!

Bob

NOTE: NEW MIX UP FROM ALL YOUR INPUT AND SUGGESTIONS!

I uploaded the remix (same link above) with everyone's input here on the forum who were kind enough to take time to listen and comment.

I upped the verse vocals a bit as everyone mentioned, and I tried to tweak the EQ and squeeze out a little more definition from the bass guitar.  LOL, Now, I'm hoping I didn't screw up the volume levels of the whole mix making the corrections!

If you get a chance to check the new mix, please let me know what you think.

Sincere thanks for all your help to everybody who listened and commented!

Best Wishes,
Bob

Hey Bob, great vox and guitars as usual -- the guitar tones are terrific and so is the instrumental break.  My only crit is that the bass was a little diffuse - could use more definition in the mix -- and the panned rhythm guitars seem a tad too loud in the mix.  Other than that, the mix is outstanding.

I enjoyed that Bob - a really cool rockin' tune.  The mix sounds good to me.  Excellent guitar solo.

    Hi, Allan,

Thanks, buddy, that's exactly the kind of input and observations I need while I'm trying to get my studio ears back!

After so much time off from recording I'm having a hard time getting the instrument levels and vocals balanced correctly, and not quite trusting my EQ decisions yet.

I'll definitely try to re-eq the bass tracks to squeeze out some better definition, and also adjust the rhythm guitar volumes a bit.

Thanks again, I really appreciate you taking time to check it out and your good suggestions and input!

    Have a great weekend!

Sounds great.  No evidence at all that you've gone a bit "rusty".

My only nit is that the vocals sound a bit quieter in the first minute and seem to get boosted in volume after that.  I like how they sound best after the 1 minute mark.

I like the "fat" guitar sound. For my ears the vocals could be a little more louder and thicker.
    Otherweise good production :)

Not sure what happened yesterday Bob but I got a page not found, found now though.

This has the Bob sound from the get-go.  Cool fat guitar tones, solid drums, nice bit of organ.

Cool stuff Bob mix come across here nice, solid with good instrument separation and definition.

Good one Bob, love that greasy main riff. well written and performed song as usual, nice dynamics and some cool production ideas. Vocals could be a touch louder in the verses but I could pick out the lyrics so no big deal. Oh..tasty solo too!

Really nice, Bob. I agree with everything said so far.
Also I liked that snake charming flute thing at the beginning that changed into the crunchy guitar.

    Hi Bob ,

I'm listening right now . Yes , this tune sounds very good too me ...
Love the vocal production techniques you did ...
Your vocals have a real familiar Classic Sound mixed in with an extra serving of Balls ..
Guitars sound good ...Yep , you have always featured good sounding guitars in all your tunes .
I enjoyed what you played. As I was listening I said to myself I wish I could get both my 7 and 8 string guitars to cut in a mix like you got yours
I haven't used them recently but either way your guitar sounds are top shelf and they have given me something to think about ..

    all the best,

    Kenny

Oh Yeah , Life is Good .

gol dang good low end on this one. Bass and crunchy guitar all sound great. That's tough to pull off. Nice!

I thought your vocal in the verses could come up a bit in volume. It's kind of overpowered by the guitar as it is. Maybe it's just the first verse. The rest of the song seems better in this regard.

at :58 or so, an extra beat that could be edited out? I dunno. Again at 1:30. Am I missing some cool rhythmic feature you are adding, or is that just an extra beat to be gotten rid of?

I really like this mix and the sweet flanginess, super blast from the past.  That guitar solo and backing stuff in the 2:20's is seriously good.

    cheers,
    -Tom
