Snap to/Snap by

I've used Cakewalk products pretty much the entire time I've been involved songwriting as a hobbyist (hopefully not for much longer).  I went away from it for a while due to frustrations with staff view, many of which now appear to be resolved.  I'm back because I haven't found anything that allows for the versatility and ease of input and experimentation than Sonar.  Let's face it, with the X1 interface, a couple of choice soft-synths, a guitar, and mic, you can do it all in terms of songwriting and you can produce a good quality home recording without breaking the bank.

I'm wondering, however, if its me or still one of the few remaining glitches in X1 that makes it difficult to place notes where I want.  The program used to allow us to place notes at certain intervals (1/16, 1/8 etc.) snapping to the right spot in the beat, but that doesn't seem to work with consistency any more.  It has worked with some files and with others it doesn't, so I'm wondering if anyone else who uses staff view experiences this problem and if you found a solution.

Thanks,
Steve

You want to try turning off Magnetic Snap.  I think it's in the Preferences dialog under the MIDI section.

Thanks for the tip on snap settings, but it still didn't work.  Can someone who knows for sure confirm that this is a by design or something that still needs to be worked out.

    Thanks

I have the same problem when placing notes. They may fall at -0.907, 0.028, 0.053, etc. Copying notes for harmony is quite time consuming. The notes snapped correctly at one time, but I have a feeling my cat changed something wandering across my keyboard.

Lol! With all the shortcut keys your cat could do some serious damage while remaining so innocent looking!

So in the redesign of Sonar to Sonar X1, was the snap to in staff view purposely eliminated?  Or should I be reporting a problem with program?

It used to  work as advertised, but since X1 it's been broken for me.  With or without the magnet on.

    All the best,
