Most of the bass players I've worked with always insisted on double my parts. I'd always try to explain to them the yes, for this style of music following the riffs is good but not completely duplicating them! I'm loving having full control over every part. No teaching. No wild cards.

Wow,youv'e been lucky, many, many Bassists I had the misfortune[a bit harsh maybe?]to play[fight against?]always wanted to play like John Entwhistle,or Stanley Clarke, and not actually play Bass, even full on Pro gigs touring the country!

Maybe it's a Aussie thing that afflicts anyone who picks up a Bass here?

Anyway seriously now, don't delete those other parts, just do a "Save As" and keep the old projects/parts included,as a cwp file, and then start a new project with a new/altered name,as .cwp files take up next to no Hard Drive space.

Cheers
Bob

@bob... Oh yeah, they're all still there. I do Save As at critical points. I have done some PC audio stuff in the past but it was all on old gear/software and I was hacking it the whole time. Technically I'm not a complete beginner but I'm going about things like I am because although what I was doing before worked (kind of) it was horribly misguided and wrong. And I find bass players generally have two categories, dudes who play too free and loose and dudes who glue themselves to the guitar parts. People say good drummers are hard to find (which is true enough) but personally I think TRULY good bass players who know when, how and what to do are even more difficult to find. Fortunately I'm pretty good on bass but I'm NOWHERE near as good as I'd like to be so I've got my work cut out for me on that front as well. For metal an rock I'm fine but once I start delving into my blues/jazz/prog tunes I'm in for a challenge.

Hey Yeah,I hear ya,but maybe there are still some lttle gems, that are your style, that are in those older recordings, sometimes a fresh listen can surprise you[and others!]

Yes,I'm still at the complete beginner stage with A LOT of things with ITB recording, but its more to do with computer operation than audio in a way,as a LONG time ago,I did actually get to record in a couple of the best studios in Sydney, but the time spent there was all too brief, and most unfortunately, the Mastering of most/all of those recordings, was done,at the very last minute,by people who obviously didn't "get"what they were hearing, and the "over compression" that's more than MEGA evident,on the eventual compiled CD,was so overwhelmingly destructive of the original tracking, and daily "take home cassettes" from the sessions,it
destroyed my whole enthusiasm for music in general, and not long after,I went into a 20 year hiatus from music completely.

All the while in those old days,I had a Tascam 244 4track,and use to use it furiously, and I used to convince myself,if I just tweaked the "actually quite good parametric EQ" enough, and used the natural "tape compression" I'd get over the "incredibly narrow frequency range",and inherent noise of the indisputable "ultra low grade" audio quality of a cassette!

In one very rare, and bizzarre case though, it actually worked!,and a song was used on 3 different Surf Movies, alongside established artists, whose recordings were ALL done on 24 track Studers et al,it was actually quite hilairious, the maker of the movie just liked the track so much,he didn't seem to realize it was a "cassette 4 track recording".

What was really weird, was another Funk/Metal[ I don't know if you remember, but just prior to Nirvana, when Everybody, thought that "FM" was going to be the Next "Big Thing"?]track, that was NOT used, but ended up being ripped off to a tee,for a prime time television "Comedy Tonight Show" as the shows Theme!,and it was "unmistakable" that it was my song,as even my Mum could hear it immediately!,and in fact She was the person, who first informed me[among others],that I should check it out!

Of course,Nothing could be done,as they changed the second half just enough, that I would have probably lost a copyright infringement court case, and it was a Major Television Show....big money against penniless Bob.

Sorry if I went on a bit,but I need to get this crap out occaisionally.
Cheers
Bob

Heh... naw I like stories. I've recorded in some big studios too and as a young hotshot guit bender was promised the gilded path to stardom... yeah, that didn't work out so well. lol I have plenty of tales as too but they'll have to wait for another day. Gotta rest my creaky old body for the night and hope the deities of productivity smile again on me tomorrow. Cheers, bob.

I love "too much low end  energy"from the guitars +  they can't fight for room with "the bass",cause I don't have any bass guitar or otherwise on my tracks he heh

Bass just gets in the way, your always having to teach Bass players the parts, plus they always "overplay" during the solo.....who needs em?[kidding....sorta?]

Iv'e spent too much money on Everything else, and haven't got around to being able to find a DECENT "Left Handed" Bass Guitar yet, which is the REAL problem, everything L/H is always waaaaay more than a righty which I do understand..tooling etc etc,but R/H Bass, for $399,same Bass in L/H $599!!! Bob

You want a left hand Bass?

Check out Thomann

That's where I got mine, imported from Germany

Yes,Thomann look like a pretty thorough stockist of just about everything, however the freight to Oz is a tad more than Germany to the UK,although we have a pretty ok customs deal, where anything imported has to be over $1000 AUD [647.20 GBP]before we get charged import duties.

Is your avatar a Left Handed 60s P90 Gibson Les Paul Studio?

Everytime  I've been about to buy what looks like a decent L/H Bass, something else comes up,always the way, when it involves something more than a few Hundred Dollars it seems.

I'm sure my recordings will be way more musical with some tasteful lower register harmony, but ATM,I'm sort of surprised at the results "without" it.....it must be the exceptional sound of SONAR X1?

Seriously though I have many projects consisting of 1 main hook,or 1 strong idea for a chorus, and I'm sure a bass, could very well be the catalyst, for "stitching" these, separate ideas together, and while there are a multitude of options within X1,for connecting separate projects together,I'm not there yet,a bass it must be!
Cheers

Yep!

And the Bass I got from them is a Warwick Rock Bass 5 string

The wife says I can't have any more guitars for a while...........

I reckon my next major purchase is going to be jewelery related (not me!)

Bob, just in case you don't know this, but Dim Pro has some alright bass sounds in it. You would be surprised how just some bass makes a song "stand up"

X1 has other bass players in it too. The Studio Instruments is another good thing to try.

Put a bass note on the PRV and then add some arps to it!! With a little work something might show up!!

For me mixing is almost as much fun as playing in a band.
Look at all the hat's we get to wear now we have the tools at our disposal. Are we equally good at all these things???
