So, I get my new ARC2 software, and........(UPDATED- song added, post #32)
((i fixed the mic. updates near bottom of thread)) the mic does not work. or rather, to be more accurate: the 3 prongs on the inside of the mic, that are supposed to line up with the 3 holes in the mic cable, do not line up; they are slightly rotated inside the body of the mic, and they do not key together, and will not allow the mic cable to plug in. grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sorry to hear the bad news, that would suck! I just looked at mine and it is a bit rotated and the mic cable fits very tight but it will mate up. That plastic connector that holds the 3 pins is suppose to have a key on it that aligns with a groove inside the mic body. They must have put some serious force on it to get it in there mis-aligned that bad. I have a feeling there is a set screw somewhere under the label that is holding that connector in place but I'm sure it would violate your warranty if you messed with it. Makes me wonder how they even got the screw in it unless they made a new hole in the plastic connector... Then again, they may not have put the screw in and the only thing holding it together is the friction of the mis-aligned plastic key on the connector forced into the mic body. Where's that Obi when you need him? Hope you get it sorted soon.
Purrrfect Audio DAW here. Wow!...

Maybe Obi can drive over with a loaner or a replacement. He lives right down the road from you. :-)

really? right here in slut ville.....? LOL that'd be cool.. i was just really ready to roll with this thing. i tried my shure ksm44 in omni mode, just to see if the software was doing it's thing, it does, but it says in the literature that the software is geared towards that one mic...

Yep, Obi lives in Salt Lake. He's always been very quick to help me with anything. ARC has made a big difference here. I went through the process 3 times and the results were very consistant. My correction is almost perfectly flat. I hope you get it going soon. I will be interested in how it works for you.

Poor quality control. They should just send you a new one and pay also for the return of the faulty one. If I bought a Rode Mic here in Australia and there was the slightest thing wrong with it that is exactly what they would do. In fact I had a problem with a cable with the Rode Classic Mk I and they sent me a new cable overnight. It arrived at 7am the next morning (in time for a session too) and paid for the transport back of the old one too. Service.

Shoot me a ticket number via PM and I'll be sure we get you a new one sent out. Thats really odd to get it not working like that, I have two and both work fine. clintmartin Yep, Obi lives in Salt Lake. He's always been very quick to help me with anything. I totally would be down to meet up and drive one out to you, but as of Sunday I'm in Guatemala visiting family for the holidays. :/ Maybe when I get back we can hit up a show or something? Still, the situation sucks and I want to do my best to get it straightened out for you. What part of the Valley do you stay at?

thanks for that offer IK... that's very generous. i'd love to be able to keep the current serial number software (i have it all installed and it is working fine), but just replace the mic. it looks like whoever built the mic, just pushed the pin face in a little rotated, and i don't want to ruin the mic screwing with it trying to fix it. i'll pm you the info i got from IK, but please don't bother with it while you are on vacation. it can wait a few days. i live in Olympus cove, near wasatch blvd. it's about 3500 east and 4200 south thanks again, and have a great holiday

That's a real bummer Bat. Hope you get it worked out ok. I believe OBI will take care of it. The only problem I ran into was knowing which mic to use. Apparently there were two and mine didn't match either description. I finally got it all settled.

I'm actually pretty surprised to see you getting Arc-2 Bats. You're mixes have always been some of the best home studio mixes I've heard on any site dating years back. I always assumed you had like the best mixing room on the planet. Something changing or are you trying to find a mobile solution?

lol, GRANT...... i have the CRAPPIEST room in the planet. heheh actually, i have treatment, but not enough.... i need better monitors (i use old KRK Rokits, with the 5" drivers) i have found the ARC curve, to be exactly as i thought it was, and what i have to do to get my mixes balanced, is really a lot of work on the low end....unnecessary work... i'll post a screen shot of what it had to do to get my room flat. you'll laugh. i think i may re-arrange my whole studio setup, just to try to flatten the curve out a bit before the ARC. so, as an update to my original post: i fixed the mic myself. just backed the set screws out, ground off the side rib of an older mic cable, inserted it in the mic barrel, and rotated the pin face until it lined up the way it was supposed to... screwed the set screws back in, and plugged my good cable in, did a good room calc with the mic, and i'm rolling. i'll post a mix soon, so i can get some feedback from you guys on how it's translating now....

Glad you got it all sorted out. I also thought you had some killer mixes before. It sounds like you already knew the weaknesses . ARC can help to make the whole setup work a little better in your studio. I always check my mixes both with and without and it amazes me the difference between the two. I need to work harder to make it sound good in ARC lol.

Agreed, it makes a huge difference. It actually took me about a week to get used to how it sounded with ARC because I was so used to mixing in my room without it. After I adjusted I was able to work out a mix in much less time and able to use my FX quicker than before because I knew what I was hear and trusted it a lot more.

Actually Clint, that looks pretty darn good compared to mine. I'm trying to get a screen capture but looks like my 3D driver won't let that happen in Win 7 64, failed with both print screen and paste and fraps. I'll try to get a capture of it from my XP partition. Thanks for posting that

I knew I wasn't hearing all of the lowend before ARC 2. My room is completely untreated, but I am able to get everything symmetrical. I'm pretty thrilled with the end results. I measured 3 times and it was pretty consistant each time. My monitors are Roland DS-8s...I really don't know how good they are compared to others, but I'm used to them.

Yea, I'm pretty sure I won the crapiest room lottery, I'm just lucky that way :( I guess it would be impossible for me to even get the results I'm getting now if I weren't using ARC and the VRM box to audition. Which still leaves the big question in my head, how on earth did you obtain such pristine mixes with a bad room? Learn to adjust to the deficiencies of the room? Looking forward to the before and after tunes. Hopefully your assessment of the effectiveness of ARC. Sorry so many requests

LOL hopefully, it wont take me as long to re'learn my room.

I am in a fortunate situation. You see, I am relatively new to this, and have only mixed in my room for about 10 songs. Then I acoustically treated the room and mixed about three songs. I am also relatively new to this in general. So, it sounds like NOW is the time to get ARC 2. No bad habits to correct and very little re-learning, as I already don't know what the hell I am doing. I am eager to hear the before and after mixes to determine what benefit this has as it applies to what I can or can't hear regarding the mixes made before and after ARC 2. Thanks.

It is a great time to as the sale is going on. Honestly before and afters don't help as much as you'd think. ITs about being able to clearly hear. Sure, you could technically get a decent mix without ARC and acoustic treatment. But you'd be guessing a lot and you'd have a lot of corrections to do along the way. It'll take you far longer and hinders you from doing what you are capable of with ARC.
