So I had to try...

said I was done and would wait for whatever but...I lied and gave it another try.

Stretched out a .wav drum clip for 16 bars.
Recorded a backing guitar track, a bass part and a slide lead part. Guitar Rig 5 on all tracks plus another track so I could just play along.

Had Omnisphere, Trillian and Stylus in project and working although none were being used. I did use each one, one at a time and all three together while all the other tracks were playing just to see if Sonar would hold it together and it did with no issues. That was a first too.

I couldn't believe it...It made it farther than it had ever made it with not one issue. No busses was the only difference that I'm aware of.....oh, Guitar Rig 5 instead of 4. (everything 64 bit except the .wav drum clips.)

So I decided to put some .wav drum fills in before moving onto the next section of the tune.
Grabbed a .wav drum clip and started dragging and Sonar crashed...except this time I had the PC on-line so it could send in the report. It did.
So...at least the report part is working now and it didn't crash the PC and when I reopened the project there was nothing "wrong".

Well it's the first time it's crashed by dragging a clip and the first time it just crashed itself, filed a report and closed with no hassles...so that's an improvement...I guess. ( and I didn't cuss, get angry or throw my PC in the trash...that is a major improvement. At least I don't have to reload another PC to try for round two.)

Spacey don't give up it sounds like you're making real progress. Those are three pretty heavy duty programs to run all at once. If you find a take you like maybe try freezing one of the tracks until you find the culprit.

Star I assume you are referring to the Spectrasonics stuff and they are heavy. They're not an issue even with multi-instances (4) of Guitar Rig with the computer I'm using.
If Sonar used precessor cores as it should it would be hard to even see the graph indicate. As it is it shows one core having to handle most of the load so having a great PC is a big plus.
Of course that's old hat and the issue has been addressed by....nevermind.

Not one problem or issue showed up until I tried to drag a clip. I don't know....the only thing that wasn't 64 bit was being messed with when it crashed- maybe that caused it- I don't know.
It's also when nothing at all was going on except the mouse moving a clip. pfft.

I can say though....it is a lot of fun to have midi guitar feeding all that Spec stuff and also feeding Guitar Rig...one person can sure make a lot of noise LOL....something I really wouldn't want to record by the way. :)

I remember years ago when Suzuki came out with the "water buffalo"....I just couldn't buy in to a water cooled bike...sure don't feel that way about water-cooled PC's. Man this thing is quiet. Hear a fan rush on startup and that's it. It's on the desktop too.

It's interesting that you are speaking about core loading.

I've been recreating some projects in other DAWs, using all the same wav files, layouts, and efx routing.

It's pretty obvious who actually knows how to distribute loads in Windows and who thinks that bragging about their special relationship with Microsoft should serve as a substitute.

    best regards,

Mike wouldn't it be nice if one was perfectly content recording
a few audio tracks and just falling in love?

Some day.........the light will come on and things will be seen very clearly.
Until then maybe it's best to sit quietly and listen to the bumping around in the dark.
I guess that can be very entertaining.
