So, I screwed up and deleted most of CW Content folder
So I keep it on a separate drive, have for many, many years. I hit delete by mistake. Canceled as soon as I realized, but lost a ton. I did recover everything that was lost but seems to much to figure out where they came from. Cannot believe I did this. Bad timing for sure. So do the exe files give you the option for a custom install? If not I am not sure how to get everything back again. Most files recovered (20 GB worth) are waves, flac, cfx rx2 mid. and all the ad2 stuff. Which I have no idsea what my password was and the email I used to install ad2 no longer exist. It was my own domain from when I was working in IT Now defunct. Bummer

There is no advanced install option past the X-Series. Either re-run the installers or perform a clean install. I would probably do a clean install. Some of the content installers appear to have been removed. May want to ask support to restore them. I do not believe anyone in the content installers thread contacted support.

Have you deleted them from the recycling bin? You can go in to the recycling bin and restore them from there ? bitman Just restore from the backup you surely made.
Think about how you would feel if you were asking for help and someone said that to you.

I would say "Oh yeah, thanks". And mount up the last tib. I'm not trying to be a wise cracker. Do your backups people! all kinds of crap can happen to you today. I work everyday in a world where nobody does. - A hard drive is a very dangerous place to keep only one copy of your stuff.

All im saying is there might come a day you need help and the last thing you want (in your time of need) is someone rubbing your mistake in your face. That's what you did.

Search for "File Recovery software". I used one years ago that helped me recover deleted files, I don't remember which one but a Google search should bring you several to choose from (some free). I'd advise making a backup before you run the utility. Good luck. .

Thanks Chuck......................I have backups of everything else - three fold. How I overlooked that folder I'll never know. Because I am fanatical about it. I do have backups from 2016. 2 0f them. But I do not know what might be missing. Was thinking of using one of those and then installing all the exes from that date forward. Some folks are just so full of compassion. So I am a little hesitant about reinstalling( I mean a clean install) because with my luck that will be when the servers go down. I would feel better if we had the "alleged" authorization app\algorithm we heard whispers about. Also, not in the recycle bin. Like I said I have all the files, but figuring out where they go is mind boggling. I have a hard drive in a safety deposit box, I guess I need to go to the bank. If it has it, cool. If it doesn't it needs to.

Re: the AD2 stuff, you really should be managing that through XLN Audio's Online Installer (similar to Command Center). Contact XLN Audio support and get your account sorted out. If you haven't already, do the same with Celemony for Melodyne. (I haven't used CC for either of these products since day One). As far as the CW stuff, just go to your account and start downloading. Consider this an opportunity to inventory all of your CW products.... And don't forget to copy down all of your serials/reg codes!

Hey Jon I have everything already. Except of course the one folder I didn't back up-lately anyway. I have reached out to xln, they responded and asked if I wanted my account moved to the new email I sent them I said yes but they haven't done it yet. I have every exe that exist in My Products. which is a lot. Goes back to CWPA 6. Plus I have the extras like Rapture Pro etc. So I have all I need to do a clean install, but as I stated, will the servers go down in the middle? With my luck it may. Thanks for the encouragement. It's appreciated! Frank

You can reinstall but make an offline authorization using Cakewalks off line reg. It pairs the PC to the software (Sonar) That's what I did first incase Sonar went dark. But it seems like a reinstall might be your only option right now. Good luck with this.

If the servers go down the offline authorization won't work either. A few of us did a test and you have to create the little file save and take it to another machine and the responce code comes from the server. That code can only be used on the machine it was created from,, this is the heart of our situation. Until Cakewalk re writes the Sonar programing to use the old x3 and back method we will be hooped when the servers die. And I'm suprised if you worked in IT you didn't recover the files from the dust bin. Of course this doesn't work for external drives once you un plug them. And I don't think the servers are about to go down as the word from Cakewalk is they are not planning on this happening anytime soon. Of course we have reasons to be paraniod.

Hey Johnny, I DID recover the files except I do not know where they go. 20.xGB, Lots of drums from all over, and all of AD2. I have reinstalled the things I use over existing in case they were missing files, The delete I did started at the top of the folder with AD2. Then I caught it and cancelled. I use EZ Drummer 2 and StevenSlate Plat4 Drums 99% of the time. so I just am not going to worry about the rest. None of that stuff was in the CW folder. I did have a backup for SonarPlat folder in the CW contents folder. As far as being in IT and not backing that up. Well? No excuses as I said I am ridiculous with backups, off property. on property in a safe and other places. I do have copies of the CW Content folder but they are from June 2016. I have a new SSD s I am swapping that in my daw PC and will see if it authorizes Splat. I do have Splat installed on my laptop also. i7 with nvidea 640 and 16gb ram. It's up to date. But the content folder is only 5.x gb because I don't have some 3rd party stuff or AD2, RapPro and toontracks stuff installed on it. thanks for the info. I do have everything elseapp wise, passwords, serials, etc, etc, etc and all my stuff from CCC Frank damn this a great forum.................................:-(

I am not sure . I think they have software to recover any files that you deleted by mistake. I would google to find out.

File Scavenger is very good and not too expensive. Remove disk from the computer and connect it using an external SATA and power kit to a laptop or another PC. Install Scavenger on the laptop and you can then safely recover all your files. In the meantime, dont create or add new files as they will make matter worst.

Thanks Guys....I did recover the files but there are thousands of them. Putting them back where they came from is, well, just a bit to much. I am going to start all over.

Give us the names of some of the files or folders. I'm sure that people here can help to work out where they belong.

Scavenger will restore from the folder they were deleted from.
