For the thousandth time.
Bandlab is not Gibson.
Meng wasn't there when you and I bought lifetime updates.
Yet Bandlab is giving away updates to you and me for free!
Wait for the forthcoming release of all the coding work done on today's latest release.
You're welcome!
Feel free to give Bandlab a tip!
It's called being grateful.
Try it sometime, it's better than having a carrot stuck ... Seriously, there's much to be excited about. Bandlab is listening to the users.

Man, muzdol, I think you should consult your doc and hear if you might be suffering from a depression.

It's not nothing, it's everything.

In short the story is this, the company you bought your lifetime license from suffered from a financial stroke and died ... taking your license and EULA with it to the grave ... then our hero Meng arrives with his company BandLab saying ... ej ... I will breath life in that dead secret weapon ... all former lifers can keep what they have and receive free updates to the now restarted development. Come join BandLab. Great news !

That you manage to make that into nothingness is totally your own making.

Muzdol,

After Gibson drove Cakewalk off the cliff, BandLab stepped in and rescued what would have become an orphanware DAW.  BandLab has also made provisions for you to keep EVERYTHING that you (and I) had in Splat as lifetime users, and with this new release they are demonstrating their commitment to continued development and the willingness to respond to user requests.

I believe the phrase that you are searching for is "Thank You".

If you are jealous that others are receiving the DAW for free that you (and I) paid for, that's your emotional baggage to deal with. You still have the program that you paid for. The only difference is that the rest of the world can have it too.  For free. No reason to let that eat you up, unless you just dig that sort of thing.

In light of the recent amount of people, who don't seem able to comprehend that a software license is tied to the issuing company .. not the software itself ... makes me really look forward to a redesigned forum which makes it obvious that there has been a change in ownership and management.

Humanity never ceases to amaze me. I can now imagine the scenario where violinists will refuse to receive free Stradivarius instruments, and existing owners throwing the one they already have, after it becomes publicly available.

And we were not going to have an absolute free ride for life anyhow.
Go back and read the fine print- It was Life Time UPDATES to Sonar Platinum.
There is a big difference between upgrade and update,, lets get that right.

This is what MIGHT have happened under Gibson if they stayed in business-  say a few years would have gone by and they would have come out with a new version , called it something else and offered it for sale. We would have been offered the usual upgrade offer.  There would have been 100's of people complaining that they have LIFETIME updates who did not get it.

Sonar Splat would have become a legacy version just like X3e and no more updates.
They would have honored your "lifetime update" with the LIFETIME of SPLAT.

ok, seems there is nothing for lifetime users. thx.

From http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Introduction.30.html

Note: If you previously had a Cakewalk account, sign up for a free BandLab account with the same email address you used with your Cakewalk account. This ensures that BandLab can verify any previous purchases, and any future upgrade or cross grade opportunities will be available to you.

This is the first release of the DAW from BandLab. If you want the latest upgrade based on the product you purchased from Gibson/Cakewalk it is available from BandLab today. It does require establishing a BandLab account. While we do not know the future it appears that BandLab has plans which rely on information gathered from Cakewalk accounts.

No one is forcing you to use BandLabs version of Cakewalk.
You still have the latest version(s) of SONAR Platinum ever released by the owner.
If you want to go further, the new company is offering the product free for everyone.
The new owners will NOT get ANY of the 3rd party addons you got with SPlat when it was alive.
The suggestion for joining is not mandatory, it is only for people wanting to use the new version of Cakewalk, released by another/new company.
PS. I also had a lifetime subscription, but it ended in November last year.
All the best.

I'm just glad that the core program continues to be updated and I don't have to pay anything for the updates. To me, that's fulfilling the promise of lifetime updates, even if the company that made that promise no longer exists.

I can understand that some people resent paying $199 or whatever it was for lifetime updates if others now get the same thing for free, but I don't think that's the case. If you paid for Platinum, you have a bunch of goodies new users don't get, and will likely need to pay for in the future. So you get to keep the goodies and get the program updated for free. Not a bad deal IMHO.

Muzdol,

Keep in mind that Sonar Platinum is gone, buried, 6 feet under the earth.  BandLab doesn't have anything to do with Sonar, their product is call "Cakewalk by Bandlab" .

So, for lifetime updates for the product once know as Sonar Platinum, you  will have to consult with Gibson about that, however, remember that Gibson ended Sonar Platinum.   So according to the contract with Gibson, you will receive lifetime updates to Sonar Platinum as long as Sonar Platinum exist.   Well News Flash, Sonar Platinum is no more as Gibson ended it's life.

Bandlab only is only responsible for the product, "Cakewalk by Bandlab", and they are not offering Life time updates, they are offering a free product..., it doesn't get any better that that.

Be happy and smile about the great news.

Peace,
Jesse G. A fisher of men  <><

I believe the subscription model negates any further "upgrades". This is why people pay monthly and not only when the product has an upgrade... I am not disagreeing with your intent though.
