So THIS is why you do not lend guitars to ANYONE...

I just pulled out my old P-Bass for the first time since it was handed back to me and had rushed it into a case for my last epic move a few years ago. Well tonight it was time to lay some bass tracks (or try to anyway) and I decided to use the P instead of screwing around with synths. Oh MY GAWD!!!! It was COVERED in sweat, beer, general shmootz and BLOOD!!! FREAKING BLOOD!!!! This bass has been everywhere. I let it behave as a communal instrument for various musical chicanery. I always called her back when I needed her and she was always in reasonable condition. A quick polish and a string change and kabingo... all was well. This time was a nightmare. I have spent the last three hours disinfection the first layer and then removing layers upon layers of crud with my various other little tricks while hand polishing the whole way. I would still like to completely dismantle all the hardware and clean that properly but I just need a working bass again. Unfortunately NO amount of polishing will fix this part... The E/A pickup case has been almost destroyed. The part of the case that holds down the pick up on the low E side is COMPLETELY gone. I can look in and see the coil. BRUTAL!!! I cannot adjust the pickup to pull that side away from the low E string at all. But this is MY P... she rules. She is awesome. Once I had her cleaned up and restrung I barely had to adjust the intonation and the strings pulled just far enough away from the pick up to be playable with a pick despite the out of whack pick up. Sadly when playing with my fingers it is all clickety plops and that is unacceptable so I guess I am stuck with using a pick until I figure it out. She sounds AMAZING though. Way better than I remember. It's like she was thanking me for finally saving her. Don't worry old girl... you're with daddy now. We'll grow old together.

Sounds like she's had a bit of an adventure.
Show her a little more tlc, and I'm sure all will be forgiven.
It seems she's happy to be home, yes?

Definitely. It sucks about the pickup though. Now that I'm trying to track it is causing some major issues. Someone needs a right punch in the face for violating my bass like that. Perhaps it's me for lending it out in the first place. Grrr...

Yup. I'm pretty mad. I was gonna replace that pick up at some point anyway but I guess it'll have to happen sooner than later. Maybe I can jury rig something in the meantime to hold that side of the pickup down. Ugh... so mad.

I'm very reluctant to let my children play with others unless I'm there to supervise.  Blood?  Dang!

I believe you're referring to a mouth organ.

You should've Re-Mixed it, made some loops, and sell it to the DubSteppers!!
