Awesome. I'm gonna try getting it again from Sweetwater tomorrow. I had some difficulties with them yesterday morning. But the Sweetwater card is the only way I can afford the upgrade right now.

As soon as I solve the (what seems to be unique) UAD problem in an old project I'm having I should be a happy camper.

This problem was solved by updating to UAD Rev7.

I actually got a good deal on Saturn. I bought Pro-Q and L two days before the 25% off Summer sale so Fab Filter gave me $75 off on Saturn.

When my first core is spiking and I'm thinking about upping my buffers, the first thing I think about is how neat it would be to have some kind of animation running in my DAW.

We discussed spinning the tape reels at two different speeds, based on the IPS setting...  But there was a concern about a performance hit (plus other important things to focus on). :)

Kramer does that. It's cool but like you said, just eats up extra resources.

Could make it an option.. tape spinning.

For those with the resources turn it on. If in doubt, turn it off.

I'm a little surprised at the somber fanfare for X3's release. Wasn't exactly a grand entrance, if you get my meaning. Just an email and some information. Maybe Cakewalk is hoping it will seem like a small thing, but that X3 in and of itself will begin to wow everybody, or lack things to gripe about. I dunno. Here's to happy times!

Re: So... Whaddaya think??? 2013/09/29 22:31:02 (permalink)
I played with X3 for about 4 hours, LOVE the color tinting thing they do on tracks.
My Melodyne 2.1.1 editor fought Cakes`s version and I still can`t get V-Vocal or Melodyne
from the TABs to run like V-Vocal used to.  I had to relicense my 2.1.1 editor to make my X2 version work again. if I use Melodyne like before, "transfering audio" method, I can get some use from Melodyne.

Melodyne and V-Vocal--------

Right now MY error is:

SONAR X3 Producer

DirectShow Error [0x8004022A]
This filter does not support the current audio format. it may require a
different number of channels (e.g., stereo instead of mono) or a different sample rate.

Both are fine in X2
I like what I seeing so far in X3, I want V-Vocal back, gonna do some testing tonight and check back here later.

Purchase - no problems with the Cakewlalk store.
Serial and registration codes available in a very short time.
Download - No interruptions or errors, the whole process ran as expected.
Installation - I decompressed the 4 Sonar X3a downloads into one folder then I ran the setup program. All ran smoothly. I didn't select things Like Dim Pro and Zeta or rapture as I already have them.
First run - transferred appropriate settings from X2, found audio devices, plugin scan found over 350 plugins and then I was ready to go.
Loaded up several old projects from my collection and no I issues with plugins.
Playback very smooth.
Screen refreshes and doing things while projects playback seems much more solid than previously.
Liking all the enhancements but this will really take doing a few projects to get to grips with.
My verdict.
We had a fun build up to the release, jibing back and forth with Seth and Andrew. Ryan has been hanging around since release to get onto any pressing issues, and Noël has leant his technical prowess with in depth explanations.

All in all I think this has been the most thorough release in my memory of Cakewalk and to cap it off this version of Sonar seems the most stable and smooth running release I've ever installed on day one.

Props to all the Bakers. We'll done.

Cake really walked that extra mile on X3 - congrats to them and to us that got it.

A full days work - and so sign of instability.

Reported a minor thing about midi input changing on track if changing output synth.
And Track Manager suddenly stopped working(dialog never comes up) from Consol Strips tab in a project. H-shortcut works if I set focus to Inspector view - but that might be the same as Track View. Confusing...

I wish TM should have columns for Track View and Console View to directly affect where a track is visible. Now opening from Track View only track view is affected, and Consol only in consol. Confusing that is does not cover the project as a whole.

Checked track templates out - and it worked making a folder of drums for Superior Drummer, 7 stereo outs from that, and even a Drums Bus - what a huge timesaver.
