So What Makes a Topic "Hot"?

The # of replies?
The # of views?
The ratio of replies to views?
Or ???

Also, can a "Hot" topic go cold?

I think it's purely the amount of views, might be wrong though.

Ed and I did a tune a while back called Desert Dust, currently it's got 77 comments, but in excess of 28000 views...no idea why.

I appears to be based entirely on the number of recent (within the last 2 days) replies. View count does not seem to factor into the algorithm. It goes "cold" when there haven't been any replies for a day or more.

This is based purely on observation, not inside knowledge. You could, however, empirically validate (or debunk) my hypothesis by reviving any ancient thread about nothing and then appending a bunch of becan jokes to it.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
