So, am I a greek because I never miss an episode of American Idol.

I'm guessin' the concensus here is yes?

That's ok - I've been given a bad time because I always watch it.

Don't be shy, what do you think.

And, don't worry, you won't hurt my feelings.

I watch the auditions... then switch off (well the UK version x factor)

the good bit.. Simon Cowell is bringing a lot of the money back to the UK (he owns the tv production company SYCO also) . well maybe unless he's one of them lot who is paying less tax than his cleaner, not saying he is .. but there are plenty more at that lark.

the bad bit... it's a MASSIVE advert for acts he is promoting, and he rakes in the money from the music + tv show + phone voting... e.g. the recent Christmas song.. if you bought any version of it including the original.. he bought rights to it = money in his pocket.

He is a suit promoting what basically are singers, and normally imaged based ones at that..
he is about money NOT music.. gotta admit it's kinda funny he has credits on things, yet ya never seem him playing on stage etc.

if you enjoy it , thats the main thing..

I do think he has a massively unfair advantage to promote acts compared to joe public and pretty much a monopoly.. It's actually quite sad some people just listen to what they hear and thats it and haven't explored other music, even if they find out they don't like it.

I am sure that Socrates would watch American Idol if he were alive today, of course he would watch it in a cave. Therefore, by the transitive property of american idol that could make you greek.

You will know for sure if American Idol makes you a greek if you suddenly, and for no apparent reason, start saying "no coke, pepsi."

Or if you use Windex as a home remedy.

Not at all. The show can be quite riveting to watch.

Now if you go out and buy the albums, go to the promotion concerts, and actually like the performers. Well, in my eyes, that merits a whole different question.

that's entirely up to you.. Notice the links I posted were really bad? that was intentional..

you honestly think the judges sit thru ALL the auditions? they only pick the very good or very bad ones, from the researchers and normally they have a sob story attatched to them.. e.g. family illness about how their aunt dorris signed them up for it, then died... etc.

It's business, well for Cowell at the end of the day.. do you hear any of his acts amassing loads of money ? just put it that way. It makes a mockery of people who pay their dues making music in some ways.

Right, lets sign up Jon for it.. although we have to invent some tripe story about how he lost his dog last week, he single handedly saved 200 peoples lives etc etc.

I watch it - and I'm not ashamed.

Okay maybe I'm a little ashamed. But I'm a total sucker for some reality shows (i.e. Survivor, Top Chef, Rock of Love). Although if DVR's didn't exist there's no way I would ever cath any of these shows.

After realizing how much you enjoy the program it does seem harsh and that's not good. So, nevermind and I also didn't consider all the commercials...surely enough time there to handle some recording time. Well you're not a geek and watching still allows recording time...you're good to go! lol

I'm a total sucker for some reality shows (i.e. Survivor, Top Chef, Rock of Love).

that's the thing though, how many shows ARE reality shows though. I mean we have things here, where it shows people doing their job or their life style. 3 things that come to mind Trawler men, A life of Grime and Paddington Green.. "no hungry for fame because I've been on tv" people.. So they are far removed from the other sort.

It's sad in the fact that teens see that as a way to get a job in the future..e.g. marry a footballer or someone in music etc. or sell stories to the tabloids, I guess it's always been there, but now it's far more wide spread.

Although I did watch Kitchen Nightmares USA yesterday. I think it's partly the shock with the cultural difference and Gordon doesn't get a flying 4x and tells them how it is. He's not exactly diplomatic with his words.

    I just don't get it.

All the ladies (where I work) watch it, and rehash it for us the next day.

    My mother never misses it.

But I just don't get it.

But then again, I don't rubberneck car accidents either.
