So long, Alchemy....

A quick reminder: this is the last day (July 7, 2015) for owners of Alchemy to back-up their purchases and other downloads from the Camel Audio site. Alchemy was bought by Apple back in January, so this is particularly important for those of us on the PC platform who use it. As there is not either any word as to what, if anything, is coming out on the Mac platform, it probably is not a bad idea for Mac users of Alchemy (if any are here) to also re-download their files.

Fare thee well, Alchemy; thou shalt be missed.

In the spirit of FWIW,

Dan

I too AM very sad to see Camel Audio dissolve..........Alchemy is still my goto synth. Hopefully I can make it home in time to download the last library I bought today (it's already in my account, but hoping the server will be up to DL).

Yes, it just had that niche for me: beautiful pads, but often a bit eerie. And I loved that. I'm going to have to work to get that from some other synths, but I doubt that only one will cover that as well.

We can hope that Apple has mercy on us poor, down-trodden PC users who aren't hip enough to continually wear black turtlenecks and, when they finally get around to releasing Alchemy II and CamelSpace II (or whatever they will be called), decide in their benevolence to release a PC version of those as well.

It bit the dust for $4M going to the developers.  It will be part of Logic and I wonder what it's future for iPad. People should remember it is a synth and not a rompler.

    Hi Dan,
    Yes I did!!
It was a bit late in the evening (around 7pm Eastern time) and when I clicked on the installer to update the 1 library, it took a good 30-45 secs for it to actually start (which gave me a sad face......but, then was very happy when it started to install).

I really wanted to get the following libraries, but couldn't find a seller....
    Guitar Mutations
    Shlomo Beatbox
    Viral Outbreak
    Analogica

Still, I'm fortunate & happy I was able to get a bunch of others.
I too am hoping that Apple provides an update for us Windows users, but will keep playing the Lotto as well.

Good for you, Mesh. That's great.

I picked up a few libraries in the last days (not to get all eschatological on you): Water (somehow I missed that the first time around), Iceland, Artificial Intelligence, and Steamworx.  There were a few others I thought about, but considered that I could tweak heavily what I had if necessary.  I am going to look particularly at Omnisphere 2 to take over where I used Alchemy (just in case).

Just wondering, because I haven't really kept up on the Mac stuff: has Apple ever ported something to the PC platform (or decided to keep a two platform application on two platforms after purchasing it)?  Put another way, has Apple ever decided to do anything that wasn't entirely provincial?

$4M?  That's not bad, I think.  But, being part of Logic wouldn't seem to bode too well for PC users, I'm afraid.

If you're referring to the buying of libraries in your comment about Alchemy not being a rompler, I agree with you, but I think there is room as well to appreciate a great programmer's work and develop one's own programming on a given synth.  I know that I've tended to use the superior (to my expertise) programming of others from which to learn to sharpen my own skills.  I doubt too many of us can program like Richard Devine.  So, hopefully, we learn.

Yeah, okay; I guess I can give you that one, but with one caveat: with all the online accounts I have, iTunes is the only one with which I have had identity theft issues. It is resolved, but I find it interesting that it was the one Apple product I have that was abused.

And my problem was odd (to me anyway; others have told me that what I experienced was similar to what many report): some strange, but very small, iPhone app purchases.  And I'll give Apple this: the person who helped me through this issue was very kind, knowledgeable,  and personable.  She also sent me a number of files with very clear direction on how to avoid leaving oneself open to this in the future (not that I was errant, really).  And thankfully, after a very short bout of back and forth and a change of credit card numbers, there were no more issues.  So, there is that.

I just hope that for once, Apple would release something for the rest of us.  And I wish that "something" would Alchemy II.  It's already got a built-in PC user base.  How much easier does it get than that?  I know that I am admittedly biased, but there's got to be something to be said for the argument.

Yeah, given Alchemy's ubiquity, Apple should do the right thing and uphold Windows compatibility.
It's so strange. When I started using Apple all those years ago, it was a niche product with almost no third party apps. Developers just weren't interested. Look at 'em now :)
