So the color is ???

OK, finishing up the drywall in my studio room so it’s almost ready for painting. I came to realized that I have no color perspective or matching skills whatsoever which was revealed during this paint color analyzing process. I would think that color plays a significant role in this type of environment, even if it is just me in it most of the time.  Open for suggestions; I do realize the subjectivity of it all.

thanks

All the rest belongs to black-ness. ;)

Actually, the official choice is tangerine tango. After seeing a swatch of this you will probably wish you had waited to finish the studio.

I went with Dark Blue on the accent wall behind the desk with Cream walls. Works for me, but I may change it in the spring to something else. Randy

Color definitely can make a difference.  I've done some research, but am certainly NOT any kind of expert in this area!  The basics off the top of my head are:

    - Red provides energy, but too much really causes stress and conflict (i.e., "seeing red"),
    - Green is relaxing, but too much will put you to sleep (which is why so many senior homes are this color),
    - Yellow is good for concentration and creativity, but too much will make you hungry (which is why so many fast food places have yellow in their restaurants)
    - Blue is also calming (there's actually a color called "Cardiac Blue" that's used in ICU's), but too much is depressing (i.e., "feeling blue" or "singing the blues")

White will make a room look bigger, grey is less fatiguing for the eyes (which is why the underside of the bill on most ball caps is colored grey) and black will make a room look very small.

I would suggest painting the room white or off-white then adding color with wall coverings, rugs, gobos, dividers or edge work.  With all those options, except edge work, you can change things up as you get used to the room (or if you need to set a certain mood - it might be hard to play Cure songs in a bright and cheerful room or Burl Ives songs in a dark and gloomy area!).

I was going to paint my studio black after seeing Lenny Kravitz Miami studio.
    Lenny's studio (below)

I didn't have the guts to go that dark so I went grey. It gave the room a modern contemporary feel.

See, that's what I said - all black and a touch of red. Lenny's got taste. :P

I think that we all react differently to colors. I spent most my early years in my grand-parents home, which had lots of red and lots of black. Same in my room there.

It was a very quiet place, different from my parents' house, and to me, those colors are forever associated w/ a much desirable solitude, reading, drawing, painting and listening to music. Just quiet and peaceful isolation.

So the rooms I've used for my home studio all had plenty of red and black in them. In fact, that's one of the first thing we did when we arrived here - my wife re-painted a few walls red, including the one in front of me in the studio.

Blue and yellow make me feel sick. I just don't feel good in rooms w/ those colors. But I understand that there are different standards.

    Alright, you silly boys.

Go to the paint store.  Your Sherwin Williams or Frasier Paints or Pittsburg Paint or whatever paint store you have in your area.  Notice I did not say anything involving the word "Depot".  There is nothing wrong with BUYING the paint at a big box store (in fact, the quality of paints at both the major big box stores is very very good), but a specialty shop will be very good at drawing out mood and inspiration from you.  In addition to just color palettes and swatches, They will have groupings of tones and shades and color families... Find one that feels right, and there will be a whole lot more in the same vein right next to it.  For as much time as you (hopefully) will spend in your studio, it's good to go talk to someone who can help.

Although I do agree with Rain.  Red and blackness and I'd throw in some gray for good measure.  But that's for MY music.  Yours is probably completely different. If it's not, there is probably something wrong with you.

I went with dark green (hunter-forest) for my accent wall and a darker (not too dark) grey for the other 3.
    Very calming and relaxed atmosphere.

    Hi,

The color of the room's walls of ceiling have never been an issue for me ... I still write. I am not sure that I could ever think that it was the color of that wall, or the ceiling tapestry or the posters on the wall that made any difference in the work I do, but in general, if you are comfortable with yourself, I am not sure what is really needed, and anything is inspiration as much as anything else.

At times, contrast is good for me, though, as it gives me different stuff, but I tend to expand the ways of writing into different areas and such, that I was not able to do before, and again, I am not sure that is as much me and my age and comfort with the writing, than it is the room I do it in. In some cases, and poems, I've done them when I was at work in the middle of taking calls for database entries.

    Thx for asking ...

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

I went with a marmalade color in my studio.... I really like the color. Not quite red and not quite pink and not really anything but what it is.Very soft pastels are great for relaxed areas.

We just went to home Depot and picked colors for our living room. I agree Jubilee that the smaller stores probably spend more time helping. In my case it's all about location and availability. They actually have a lot of information in Home Depot for color coordination. They had this computer with a touch screen that let you  pick your colors and see what they would look like in a room. This helped  decide NOT to buy one color. Finally went with a light pastel green for the living room , and I never liked green until I seen this shade of it. Very light and subdued.

One small tip...get the paint that has the primer in it already.A one step process.
