So you guys think YOU got GAS...

Dear fellow addicts,

This is dismal... and have to come even more out of the closet...

I've resigned myself to the GAS affliction. At least recognized the illness before now and tried to keep it in check as much as possible, including trying to limit myself from coming here too many times a day to see what Cclarry has discovered to drive the addiction deeper.

Hopeless...

Nigel posted a link for U-He, and happily snagged the free Tyrell synth I'd missed previously.  Okay synth and added it to the collection. Then looked thru the commercial products and was checking out the MFM2 delay. Looked interesting and vaguely familiar from a demo some time back.

Combed thru the vst's and the demo was still there. Fired it up and waiting for the dropout, noise blast, expired end of trial, 15 minute limit, 95% of the functions disabled.

Nothing cut out. What the fork?...

Clicked on the various about fields, and to my horror, I was running the registered version.

Searched through my warez cracks and it was not archived as a moral backup for something I'd purchased.

Looked in a stored zip file labeled MFM2 and there it was....THE RECEIPT...

January 2014, credit card debit for $79 to U-He for a MFM2 license.

I don't remember the slightest buying the thing.

Was going to get in on the Waves 50% sale and all kinds of crap, but this was a severe awakening.

Think I'll bang on pots and pans for awhile. That's all the Beatles had anyway, and they did lifetimes more than I can do with any of the modern toys.

Found the credit card. Wife had taken it away claiming I'd bought something expensive from some company called U-He.  Thought I was losing it there for a minute.

WOW!!!  Just got an email that Waves is extending their super sale for another 48 hours. Bundles up to 80% off!! Always looking for a good compressor.

I once had to contact Audiodeluxe and have them cancel a sale for two EZDrummer EZX paks...natch...I already owned them. Now I (quite literally) go check my plug folders before I buy anything...just to be safe.

I might even have one up on ya there John.

Not only have I bought way more plugins than I'll ever need & possibly ever use, but I've actually bought one of them twice.

It was about a year or more between to the 2 purchases, and I hadn't actually used it yet.

So then I went to install it, and bingo! - there it was - already installed.

Now since it's been about a year since the 2nd purchase, I can't actually remember which plugin it is I'm talking about, [which may have more to do with me catching up to ccLarry's age than anything else - ].

So I guess what I'm really saying is: what are the chances I'll actually go out and buy it again for a 3rd time around?

Extremely high my friends - extremely high!

For a brief while I thought my GAS complex was all done & gone, but now that Larry's back, all bets are off!

Yesterday on another thread, I posted that I've already got my credit cards out again upon Larry's return.

    Woe is me!

Actually, I'm my own worst enemy...I suffer from GAS...find all the best deals...
and have no money...so it's a lose, lose, lose...

But, at least those who do have those 3 things can enjoy them when I find them...
and that's good enough for me...

Thanks guys. Makes me feel better to know that I'm not the only one suffering from this affliction. Not that I would wish this on anyone, but just the comfort of knowing that there are others out there in cyberspace who understand.

Makes me get all choked up and the like.

I really want that Uhe delay. But I just got Fab Filters delay and haven't really got to all the features on it, so I decided (read:fought my addiction) that I would wait till I got to really know the FF delay before I would buy the Uhe delay.

And no I am not rationalizing this either. I am making a very sane and educated decision!

The wife knows about this!!!!!!!!!! Gas rule number 1: The wife can never find out about Gas, it's a secret club, they may tell other wives and so on........................One of my biggest fears after I die is my wife selling my guitars for what I said they cost.

I once bought mcdsp plugins that were protools only and I don't use protools! It was a good deal though :) I actually even registered them on my ilok. Luckily I got the money refunded.

    Grem,

FWIW, the U-He delay is nice but quite complicated. I like Timeless better, but should start learning MFM2 since all evidence point to the fact that I did buy it.

    Rocky,
Your fear about the wife selling your guitars after you die for what you told her the price was....is a chilling thought.

However, this does not remotely compare with what will happen after your demise when she finds out how much you actually paid for them... and starts coming after you.

mostly kidding....My wife gave me a '52 RI Tele for Christmas one year. I was blown away. On the other stuff, I just buy and sell at will and the wife is none the wiser.

    Incidental note for Grem...

Forcing myself to reconcile the $79 expense on MFM2 by using the thing, and figuring out why I bought it in some Sterno intoxicated drunk rage.

The thing is quite nice and glad I convinced myself to buy it, even if I have no memory of when and where or why I fired up the plastic.

...I am making a very sane and educated decision!...

Just what are these things 'very sane and educated decision ' you speak of?

I've heard of them in passing, but know not what they are.

And if after a reasonable explanation, I do even manage to comprehend, are these things even allowed here on the forums?

I thought the process went like this:

    1. We go to Cakewalk.com.
    2. Log in.
    3. Find this Software section of the forums.
    4. Check ccLarrys posts on a number of deals.
    5. We click on the links.
    6. We get out our credit cards.
    7. We complete the purchase.
    8. Download our new VST toy(s).
    9. Install it (them).
    10. Place it (them) into 'always used', 'sometimes used' or 'never used' categories/lists of numerous other VSTs.
    11. Hide said purchases/credit card statements from wife (girlfriend), if necessary and/or applicable.
    12. Return to Cakewalk.com.
    13. Go back to step #2 above.
    14. Repeat entire process.

No 'very sane and educated decisions ' required here!

    Just auto-reaction, knee-jerk, gut-feeling, no-thought-required, often-senseless purchases.

    Especially now that ccLarry's returned!

That's all we need!!!  [The way I see it anyway].
