SoftSynths & SoundFonts

Hello,

Is there such a thing as a SoftSynth that can use SoundFonts?

Back in 2000 when I first got into DAW's, I was using a soundblaster and it's SoundFont library.
It was OK, but I've since moved onto a Yamaha Hardware Synth.

However, I've always thought that the Harp SoundFont I used was quite good.
If possible, I'd like to try and re-visit it if it is at all possible.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks
Adrian.

sfz synth, that used to be on Cake's site but you'll need to track it down.

The sfz synth is bundled with SONAR, sfz+ is no longer available from Cakewalk. I believe sforzando, a free sfz player, converts sf2 files in to sfz format. This may prove a better solution.

A single instrument from sf2 can be converted to sfz (f.e. with http://audio.clockbeat.com/sfZed.html )
The result can be used in many Cakewalk Synthes, f.e. in the "flagship" RapturePro. Creating some fancy instrument... or leaving the original sound, as you wish

    +1 for sforzando.

You can also drop SF2, DLS and acidized WAV files directly on the interface, and they will automatically get converted to SFZ 2.0, which you can then edit and tweak to your liking!

Powered by the ARIA Engine ™

sforzando relies on the same ARIA Engine that powers the ARIA Player and other products from Garritan and obviously Plogue chipsounds. This engine has been built from the “ground up” on the SFZ spec, and not as an afterthought. Like the other ARIA products, this player is available as a standalone and VSTi/AU/RTAS/AAX plugin on Windows or OS X and can run in either 32bit or 64bit.

Free sounds for the ARIA engine:

Since I have Rgc audio Sfz Player, it must be included with Sonar.

If you don't have it, version 1.9.7 can be found HERE. There's also a utility to access hidden parameters available there.

Soundfonts can be loaded directly into it. Had I known this when X1 first came out it would have saved me a lot of headaches.
