Software gurus, how do I "future proof" my PC to ensure Splat keeps running?

So, sooner or later someone will break or change something in Windows or somewhere else and Splat will start bugging, that much is guaranteed. How do I protect my system for now? Do I clone my PC (which has never run better than now) and revert if things go bad? Do I disconnect my PC from the net and hope no other software upgrades from VSTs etc wreck havoc? I would appreciate some suggestions on this.

Appreciated!

For starters you could disable Windows updates

    Intel i7 4790 @3.6Ghz - 32GB Ram - Windows 10 Pro 64bit - RME Fireface UFX+
Studio One 4 Professional, REAPER, CbB-(Couldnb't be Bothered)
    More Plugs than Plumbers Warehouse.

    Hi Ludwig,

I think that you and I must be one of the few studios in SA using SONAR. I've also been with Cakewalk for the past 19 years.

I was thinking along the same lines as you. I'm going to make an image of my system drive and keep it backed up just in case something breaks.

In the long term though I really don't know which direction to go in.

    Cheers

    Peter.

I think it detects the hard drive ID and if it detects a mismatch between the HDD ID it was registered with and the current HDD ID it squeals to be connected to the Cakewalk registration service and goes into Demo mode.

A while ago I upgraded my system drive and had this happen but I don't know if they changed the system at all.

Unless there's a final release (doubtful) which removes the need to connect to the registration service the only way to future-proof will be, ironically and illegally, to get a pirate copy which doesn't phone home.

The utter irony after being a loyal Cakewalk customer for a long time despite issues with the product down the years.

    Fireface UCX, i7-6700K, 64GB RAM, 500GB M.2 system drive, 4 x 7200RPM data drives, GTX970, Win 10 Pro. Sonar Platinum.

Yes, well ive disabled windows updates, and my old computer sitting in the corner with windows 7 on it, I liked better than my new computer with windows 10 anyway, every time windows updated I had to re-register my computer with some 3rd party plugins like addictive drums and melodyne......I only just started really getting somewhere with sonar..........I am devastated........Yes....after years of using illegal pirated software I eventually spent the money on Sonar..........question is....can I still use addictive drums, soft tube saturation knob and other pro channel fx, the VKfx entire suit and melodyne with other daw? such as studio one, or will I have to repurchase all that stuff also?........

Windows 10, 64 bit, intel core i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHZ  2.59GHZ......12 gig ram ....Sonar lifetime updates, presonus audiobox 1818 interface, and beringer UFX1604 mixer interface/control surface...... All round musician, multi-instrumentalist/songwriter.....attempting to produce good music.....started on music creator 6 2014, bought sonar 2015....and now invested in lifetime updates......Learning always!!!!Thanx cakewalk and online forum

Other DAW's come with Melodyne as well, so that depends if what you pick has it, Addictive drums (is it the limited Cakewalk version?), Softube Saturation knob is included in other DAW's, so again . . . it's also free, Pro Channel stuff no, unless like the CA2A there is a standalone vst version, VKFX they are available as vst plugs and are available for any DAW

Download a demo and try it, that's really the only way to know for sure, I have had the full versions of AD1 and AD2 for years, I can't recall how the Cakewalk supplied version worked.

Yeah,cool...well if that doesn't work, ill be asking XLN Audio for a sympathy discount.......money has been spent...uno.....ive disabled windows updates.....ill be using sonar until my computer dies......I really am not prepared to buy the same stuff over again....especially if this is an indication of the insecurity of the industry.......and none of this gives back hours of hours working on projects using sonar.......its like loosing a child...as a musician its all been about the death of the music industry because of the internet and even home recording studios............well ****................I'm 42..........I'm too far down this road to turn around
