Software samper, dxi, vst

I've been poring through the forum, and I have mostly got this problem figured out, but I'm still a little bit stuck.
I'm using Music Creator 2003. I have created a drum track using MIDI piano roll in MC. I want to send that to a software sampler. I've followed Robomusic's tutorial on how to set up the tracks, but I'm still getting no sound. Do I need to purchase a DX compatible software sampler in order to send the MIDI to an audio track? Or can I use a VST plugin to do this? I've downloaded a VST wrapper and a plugin, but I can't seem to get the MIDI to send to it. My only choice for MIDI out is Microsoft GM... Thanks for any suggestions.

you've downloaded "A" VST wrapper? which one? I don't think that MC2003 is going to work with just anyone's wrapper - in fact I didn't realize that there were other wrappers, I think you have to have CW's VST Adapter and wrapper system to get VSTs to work with MC2003.

Sorry, I should have specified, its the VST-DX Wrapper Lite, I found it on KVR. If MC 2003 doesn't work with VST, what about a DX sampler? I don't entirely know what I'm doing when it comes to MIDI, etc, so if I'm way off course on what I'm trying to do, please let me know.

could you point me to the file you downloaded from kvr? I'm trying to understand exactly what it is.

for 2003, you need to use the dxi instruments. I have never used it 2003, so i don't know what's available to help you - someone else should be able to pop in and help with that, eventually, I hope.

you should work thru the tutorials and find out in there what you need to do for triggering sounds from MIDI.

another alternative is to download the VST Adapter from CW, but it's not really worth the price, IMO. For registered users of CW products (MC2003 is a valid product), it costs you $39, for non-registered users, it's $59. But for only $29 you can have the download version of MC3, or $39 for the retail boxed version (with some extra stuff) and even the download version comes with the VST adapter.

    EDIT:
I just figured out what the VST -DX Adapter Lite is...it's the VST Wrapper for MAGIX Music Maker; NOT Cakewalk Music Creator. Big difference.

VST lite only does effects, not VSTis which are instruments. So there in lies your problem. If you use Edirol VST it will sound better than Microsoft synth GS, or download some other plugins like sonic synth and sampletank free

Robo - does 2003 come with Edirol? I thought that it didn't, but I might be mistaken.
