Soldier - new tune
Well, once more into the breach. I took the advice that I received here – redid the guitars (yes, one was slightly out of tune), bass, changed 2 chords (where the melody didn’t quite fit), changed the arrangement a bit and redid the lead vocal. I like it a lot more now. The fun started with the vocal – I know it still sucks, so I went online to locate a local singer. Found someone that I thought would be great (I listened to lots of his cover material). I contacted him, gave him the song to listen to and asked him to get back to me. A few days later we speak. He said he really likes it and would love to do the session – he also said he’d need a few days to get the song sorted out. A few days later we speak – over the phone – he plays the song on his guitar – he said he was working it all out and would it be okay if he sings it at his gigs. I say of course. After that, he doesn’t answer my calls or email – gone vanished. I just don’t get people – the courtesy of a call or email to say “I am no longer interested” would have been okay and no hard feelings. Yeesh, maybe this is why I never consider playing with a band – people are so unreliable. Enough of this – thanks for those that commented and helped and if you’re interested, take another listen. http://www.onlytheunusual.om/MannyYtuarte/soldier/

Well, the sand it burns and this sun it blinds, and this soldier’s running short on time Yeah they got me good, yeah they hurt me bad. But I’m comin’ home baby now so don’t cha be sad … This ain’t no way, this ain’t no way this ain’t no way to say goodbye. Very nice Song Manny. Not maudlin but certainly empathy.

I never served, I'm pretty sure I would have been Court Marshalled for punching someone that I shouldn't have been disagreeing with :-( But I have tremendous respect for those who protect our diminishing freedoms. I like the song, it has your usual Elvis Costello vibe. There are some parts were the vox stray a bit more than I would want, but for the most part, they work well. Good job Manny.

guitar sounds a little out of tune at times, but i'm sure it's not, however it sounds a little exposed as it is, not really blending in with the vox and the rest of the instruments...nice message and the song builds up well. some of the BV need a look at though.

Hello Manny, Nice to hear one of the Ytuarte gems. Your lyrics are quite poignant. It's one of the best things about songwriting when a writer can put me in the place of someone who is bearing a burden for me, and giving me a glimpse of how it might taste. Keep'em coming, sir!

Again - thanks for the kind words and constructive crits! I'm taking it down to work on it - I think it was the joy of actually completing something (it's been a while) that made me rush this. I think I can salvage it with a few changes! Thanks again.

Sorry - I should have realized that you might not read the most recent post ... took this song down for repairs - but thanks for the effort. If I get it together I will repost it and would love to get some additional input.

I figured it out, it's in your signature and it's available to listen to now. I like it, I like the vibe on this tune. Very cool! The drums sound excellent. This is cool. I enjoyed hearing this.

Along with the changes you mentioned it also has a lot more vitality than the first version. It's much more interesting musically with the new chord changes. The harmonies are very nice and just what the doctor ordered. There's no stopping you!..............thank goodness :)

Thanks guys for taking a second listen and commenting. It's better than it was for sure. My quest for a singer continues. The feedback always helps. I know I'm due for some reciprocal listens and I will do that this weekend! Onward.
