Soldier's Lamente
I did this a while ago. It was done against a backing track with drums, bass and a keyboard. I could not get the keyboard to come out. I never liked using BTs because of that problem. It's more of a collage than anything. I added the march part throughout. I put all the guitars in. On another forum, we were given a bt and had to come up with something. The bt sounded depressing and at the time I was upset, more than usual, about the wars going on. It burns me up that they are dying so corporations can make lots of money. They're being used and it makes me sick. Anyway enough of that. It is a tribute to the fallen. May they rest in peace. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14693440/Soldier%27s%20Lamente.mp3

I'd like to hear you redo this from the ground up. Seems like it has good potential, it's just that backing track... But you knew that. I liked the guitars.

A bit short and repetitious. It could use more instrumentation, percussion (kettle drums) to build it up.

I agree with both of the previous comments. Not so much a song as a good idea for a song. The snare cadence can be used in it. I could hear lyrics to this as well.

The guitar on the right side needs to be back off a bit. It also sounds a bit muddy, add an EQ to cut down some of the lower freq. The song is quite short and it needs develop a part B or C.

This has a great build-up on the intro and fade on the end. I agree with the other comments, you have a great idea for a song here and have a good start, but it needs a bit more instrumentation or vocals to help complete your idea. I look forward to hearing more. Freddy J

Thanks for all the comments. I did start from scratch on this one. I could never get the flam right writing it out for midi. The only way around it is to just use the audio clips of the rudiments I found on the web. I realize it is short and repititious. I thought about lengthening it but realized short (for the theme) is a fallen soldier's life. Too short really, their mostly kids. I thought about the repition and when I do rework it, I'll keep it like it is because war is basicly the same repititious nonsense. I appreciate you all taking the time to listen and comment. They aren't going to be ignored when I get back to this.

I did like the intro, had a very militaristic feel, which is what you were going for. The intro for me after that, was a bit long. It's good? But lots of guitars and a bit long. Now it's the snare (military again) Off to the distance... I support our military. We sleep well in our beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf...

Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it. I do support the military as well. It is comforting to know that they are there. Also, as opposed to what the soldiers went through when they came back from Vietnam, I'm glad that is not happening again.

The military keeps our butts free... People who disparage the military? Need to go spend a few years in a country where they have less freedom than they do here? Unfortunately, that list is getting smaller? But I am hopeful... Ain't one of us here, that's not here because of the sacrifices of our military, not once of us...

What bothers me so much now is that the military is being used for financial gain for very few people. It's easy to see this with Iraq but most don't realize it is the same with Afghanistan. Read "The Shock Doctrince" by Naomi Klein and "The Corporation" by Joel Bakan. Quite an eye opening couple of reads.

Loved the guitar, really cool. The structure of the track doesn't really need to change it could be one of those album tracks that joins to major songs together, really cool. Peace Ben

Robert...............It is a sad melody. It all sounds good but it is the seeds for a longer song imo and a darn good one.
