Solo Now Works With Drum Maps!
Until now, when using drum maps, I wasn't able to solo an audio drum track without also putting the midi track in solo but now with Sonar Platinum, you can just press solo and it works! Sweet! Thanks bakers!!

I also think the PRV now remembers the horizontal and vertical zoom settings. These used to vary randomly and would drive me crazy!

I think I still have to group the solo in the audio and midi drum track to get it to work. I'll try later. I also noticed that the drum pane opens when you double click a drum midi clip. Before, it would open the PRV and you had to manually click "Show Drum Pane". I love that. MIDI workflow also seems to be A LOT better outside of something changing with the buffer between X3 and 2015.

I'm not usually the one to rain on the parade, but from my perspective the main complaint about his issue has always been that soloing MIDI tracks in the PRV does not solo the corresponding synth output, and that's still the case as far as I can tell. Also, I did a quick test of soloing audio tracks of drum-mapped synths, and, oddly, it seemed to work in a project using AD, but not in one using Superior Drummer. I need to look into this a little more, but there was a difference between X3e and Platinum in this respect; Soloing AD's audio track in X3e silenced the drums. EDIT: I'll be danged if I can figure out why soloing AD's audio track is working in this one project, but it's not working in a new project created in Platinum, so I'm going to say essentially there is no change from X3 with regard to soloing across drum maps in either direction.

I just did a test using Superior and inserted a GM map. At first no drums at all. Forgot to set output in the map. After that it was smooth sailing. Alternated between Kick and Snare solo with the exact desired results.

Are you soloing inside Superior or soloing audio output tracks? If you're soloing channels inside Superior, that will work because it doesn't cause SONAR to mute the MIDI track(s) as soloing an audio track does.

Okaaaay... so either my Platinum install is broken (seems unlikely) or some other piece of the puzzle is missing either in terms of config settings or project setup. I thought it might have something to do with Always Echo Current MIDI Track, which I usually have disabled, but that didn't make any difference. I guess I'll have to wait for some more more users to weigh in. I'm not seeing any change in behavior from X3e, except with this one project which turns out to have something going on with the MIDI track where muting the parent has no effect, but muting the one and only lane in the track silences the output. Other than this one track in this one project, I'm not seeing that behavior with drum-mapped tracks.

I tested and you can in fact solo the midi track of a non bounced kit piece in AD2 that is mapped, and it plays soloed. Its a wonderful thing.

Just to be clear, I'm using ezDrummer with a drum map using multiple outputs with each piece of the drum kit going to its own channel in the mixer. Before this release, I was unable to solo a particular piece of the kit (e.g. hi hat) without first having to solo the midi track. Now I can just hit solo and hear that piece of the kit.

Thanks, Bapu. That's pretty interesting, and different from what I get in both X3 and Platinum. What I see in both X3 and Platinum is that the first time I start playback after enabling solo on the audio track, the MIDI meter shows activity, but there is no output from the synth. If I restart playback with the audio track solo still enabled, the MIDI meter goes quiet as well. Both your X3 and Platinum vids are a little odd in that when you start playback with nothing soloed, the MIDI meter is showing no activity, but the audio meters are. Then when you solo an audio track, the MIDI track meter becomes active. What's up with that? Also I saw you initially reach for the folder's solo button, and it appeared you clicked it, but it did not enable...? After seenig that, I tried putting my MIDI track in the same folder together with the Audio outputs. That appeared to work momentarily, but then broke again the next time I started playback. I'll have to keep looking at it.

Maybe latency? That project is @ 1024 buffers. brundlefly Also I saw you initially reach for the folder's solo button, and it appeared you clicked it, but it did not enable...?
No I did not reach for it no did I click it, I just moved the mouse too far and back tracked (see what I did there?).

I have not tried with EZ, but YES, I have the same scenario set up with AD2 going to multiple outs and it works perfectly now. You can solo without having to solo the midi source track.

Yup, same here but using Superior in my vids above. (I do need to work out why audio was not in the vids).

Since it's probably just MIDI and no audio in the project can post a DL link to the .cwp? I'll be happy to give it a try. Or PM me and I'll give you my email address.

Sven I just tried a new project with the same drum map ad it works. Then I tried a new project with a new drum map, made edits and it worked. Wish there was away to look over your shoulder while you did it to see if it's something in your workflow that is different than mine.

After much fooling around, I've figured out the issue: By default when you let SONAR create audio and MIDI tracks for a synth, it inserts the MIDI track at the bottom of the stack. I've always personally felt that $h!+ should flow downhill so I've always created my templates with the MIDI track above the audio outputs. Well, guess what... this breaks the new solo functionality. Take a working setup with an audio track soloed across a drum map, drag the MIDI track to the top of the stack, and voila!, no audio. Also, this implementation still doesn't let you solo MIDI tracks in the PRV and continue to hear audio from a drum-mapped synth, so for me it's not a full solution even if they get the track-order thing fixed.

I tried it on an old project with BFD2 as the drum synth and it works as described above - i.e. I can solo a kit piece from the drum map and this will be the only drum sounding. This is without the Midi track being soloed. I'll try dragging the Midi track to the top when I get home and report back. They've clearly done some work on this function but soling any of the audio tracks does not solo the midi track, and neither does soling the midi track solo any of the audio tracks. It's an improvement (for me) but falls short of perfection.

We'll look into it. There were quite a few updates to the synth solo behavior based on some lengthy threads on the forum. Also some old bugs with drum maps were addressed as part of us adding the VST3 multi MIDI bus support.
